I’m glad you understand it but I see it as silly because once again, it’s the internet. Rarely anyone on it ever follows up on those death threats so why pay them any mind? Mel here needs to learn to lighten up and laugh at the mistakes she’s made over the years.

Some assholes using the anonymity of the web to bully someone so intensely and long that they see no other way than to quit is not SILLY, it’s DISGUSTING.  
And some people don’t stop at quitting a fandom.. people have commited suicide over this “silly little thing”.  
But as long as so many people still think anonym internet attacks are “just a silly little thing anyone” noting will change.
 
It makes me mad that some great artists like her had to (mostly) stop posting fanart because some asshholes out there couldn’t get over their damn complexes and had to play internet warrior…  
But I can fully understand it after knowing at least about some of the shit that happened.

As a fan of many things and active in many fandoms, i see so much obsession with many things and so called critic, that i believe not the gaming industry, film industry, companys, mangakas/artists, writers and so on, are the reason that something is bad, no its the fans and the fandom of media who destroy things. Alone to see what is going on on youtube (i know this is a more bad example but still sad) comment section of many videos of different medias, faith in humanity and other people with interests, damaged.

Actually, the reason why I regressed from pony art was from death threats I was getting irl over asinine drama, not to mention that people were going after my former employer because said people don’t like me for whatever reason.
 
That kind of nonsense can kill a person’s interest in wanting to draw anything related to that particular subject.
 
I still draw pony art, but I don’t post it that much anymore. I like ponies still, just keep it more to myself now.

She’s just an artist that tries to make a living out of her work like many others. Her business model is a bit unusual but still legit to me. In the end, I never understood the negativity.
 
OTOH, she should have learnt to deal with it better by now…
