“If you really want, I can find the statistics to back up my shit.

Do it. Find me one reputable source. Don’t hit me with those fudd/bubbabait forums, find me something from actual ballistic scientists that says that 5.56 is meant to wound. I’m telling you, it’s there to kill, it just doesn’t hit as hard as .308.
Furthermore, 50BMG is absolutely effected by wind, more so than 5.56…it’s just a bigger round that catches more air.

It absolutely is not. By that logic a feather is less effected by the wind than a cinder block.

I reiterate that I’m just surprised to see somebody in favor of it Because I like it too, BUT I always see people pissing on it.

That’s all I mean about that.

I don’t see what’s so surprising about it. Sure, it might not be the best round for everything, but from what I’ve heard, it does its job. There ARE applications where other rounds are better (ex. 50. BMG for when you don’t want to give a shit about wind over long distance shots), but for simple closer-range encounters, I’m sure it does the job. I wouldn’t run it through a DMR or a proper marksman’s rifle, sure, but intermediate cartridge like it is always nice for regular combat.

Like I know all that, but I’m just saying that Derpi is hardly a place for anybody who doesn’t worship the church of hi-cal “5.56 a shit”. I’m just surprised to see an argument in favor of it here.

I mean, it makes sense, right? A significantly larger slug with a significantly larger amount of propellant is going to have more energy, and therefore, against lightly armored targets, be more effective (although against unarmored targets the danger of over-penetration might be higher, but honestly I don’t think that 7.62 NATO has much of a risk of that), at the cost of how many rounds you can carry. If you’re carrying rounds that are, say, half as powerful, but you can carry three times as many, you will be naturally more effective, and that’s not even considering things like the negligible recoil and inherently smaller muzzleflip.
I might just be talking out my ass though, so do take this with a grain of salt.

That’s just fuddlore. 5.56 was, in fact, made to kill. It just doesn’t do it as effectively as .308. The reason why the US switched over to it is because we can carry so much more of it that the reduced lethality is made up for in the amount of rounds you can carry.

The Military uses armor piercing rounds,
high velocity is like a little love tap.

I hate the idea of a bullet just being in and out of the target, then they just stand there laughing at you probably jacked up on some weird drug.

So that’s the idea of having more bullet time inside the target at a lower velocity for more yaw.
You have a hot load at a lower velocity, gives new meaning to (give ’em hell).
crapfest

@Badheart
5.56 is a glorified varmint hunting cartridge and is only adequate for two‐legged game due to its tendency to yaw. When it doesn’t yaw its lethality is severely compromised against soft targets. Ponies are a lot stockier than humans and despite their reduced stature would probably weigh at least as much, which makes 5.56 a piss‐poor choice against them. Except for the gigantic eyes, but if this chump is wearing a helmet with that kind of visor what do you want to bet that whatever he’s up against will be wearing something equivalent?

Just because you have no idea what an acronym means doesn’t mean it’s technobabble.

HUD Display headset
HUD is an acronym for +H+eads +U+p +D+isplay and refers to the transparent screens you’ll typically find in cockpits.

TRS Radio
TRS is an abbreviation for Trunked Radio System. i.e., the modern two‐way radios commonly used by cops, firefighters, and the military.

polycarbonated_Aluminium oxynitride
Aluminium oxynitride, otherwise known as transparent aluminium, actually exists.
Polycarbonates, so named because they’re polymers containing carbonate groups, also exist. Polycarbonate+d+ simply means coated in polycarbonate. AFAICT, coating the aluminium in polycarbonates is unnecessary but it would make the faceplate non‐conductive.

FRP_kevlar coated titanium
FRP is an abbreviation for +F+ibre +R+einforced +P+olymer (or fibre reinforced plastic). These are incredibly common.
Kevlar is a synthetic fibre formed from polymers. Kevlar is used for everything from tires to body armour.
Titanium is a metal that has a high tensile strength to density ratio. There are better materials for armour but few of them are light enough to be practical for body armour. Titanium is probably being used here to beef up protection rather than cut down on weight.

NIJ_lvl3
NIJ_lvl4+
NIJ is an abbreviation for the +N+ational +I+nstitute of +J+ustice and is used here as shorthand for “NIJ Standard–0101.06 compliant body armour” because that is a big fucking mouthful. Type III body armour needs to stand up to six 7.62mm NATO cartridges. Type IV body armour needs to stand up to one .50 BMG SLAP cartridge.

NVG mount
NVG is an abbreviation for +N+ight +V+ision +G+oggles. You should know this.

magic powered tracking smart airburst hoof grenade
Magic powered: the illustrations show that this grenade is a throwable RPG, therefore Magic Powered is the Equivalent of +R+ocket +P+ropelled.
Tracking: a.k.a., seeking. Yes, this is a guided(!) RPG (practically a guided missile).
Smart: intelligent to some degree. Presumably in determining the best time for the airburst to go off.
Airburst: explodes either while still in the air or, like the Russian VOG‐25P, uses a small energetic charge that detonates on impact with the ground, flinging it into the air where the main charge is then detonated.

Magic ignition ammo
Magic ignition ammo is presumably the Equestrian equivalent of ammunition that uses electrically ignited primers which, yet again, also exist.

Absorption nano glove
Well, fuck son, you managed to find a single instance of technobabble.

Oh boy, check it out.

A grip designed for a human hand, but used by a pony with the statement that they made it.

Well that’s just fuckin weird.

I’ll grant you it’s pretty, but the liberal use of technobabble and a general lack of equine-friendly features really hurts what would otherwise be a very plausible piece of concept art.
