That slipped right past me. I suppose its a missed opportunity there. Chiffon Cake would have worked wonderfully as well.
She war referred to as cup cake in the episode “baby cakes”. She obviously changed her first name as well
OR she could have just gotten a name change when she realized what her butt mark meant.

Really? I thought they actually sounded quite similar to the older voices, just a li’l different. I think they do a good job though, and have their personalities down perfectly. (I also like how Gypsy actually sounds like a girl now, and gets to do 2 riffs per episode.) To be honest, I have no complaints about the new MST3k: The Return Netflix season.
@Dr Outback
I was actually wondering that too.
Is it said in the show that her name is Cup Cake?
I’ve heard it about Wheaton. I must admit I’d almost never heard of Day - or any of said controversies - until the episode came out.
Maybe not so much something wrong as a series of minor grudges. As Revenant pointed out, the Queen of Geeks thing didn’t do her any favors. She mostly does minor cameos, which isn’t bad in itself but here’s the rub: There are plenty of talented VAs in Hollywood, and doing a single episode as a minor character isn’t enough to make someone a celebrity. She gets cameos because she’s considered a celebrity, but cameos are what she uses to cement her status as one. It’s the lesser form of “famous for being famous.” Contrast that with Tara Strong (I’m not a fan but can respect her) who sinks decades into shows even if they’ve lost popularity and she doesn’t need them. Also, Day and Whil Wheaton have a reputation for lording their fame over people and talking down to anyone who questions them. On top of which, in GG she rushed to conclude “Quinn and by extension these corporations definitely didn’t do anything wrong,” and then wrote in her book about how the evil gamers who had no legitimate concerns sent someone to her house who went through the unlocked front door, threatened her, and immediately left. A dubious story, but what’s the implication? Is she too good to take basic precautions in home security? Can she not call the cops or afford a gun? Could she not pull out her phone and get video evidence of the man? She’s not a menace or anything, but when you put it all together it seems like she thinks a small amount of work makes her better than regular people.
I was thinking the hate was from MST3K The Return on Netflix, but that’s impossible, the only thing people ever hate on is the changing VA’s of Tom and Crow.
Seems like she didn’t really do anything “wrong” really. Internet people tend to overreact.
To be honest, in my view, if it involves GamerGate then at this point reality might as well have been lost. The whole thing has evolved so much since those first momements I don’t know what the goals even are anymore. It’s totally mutated.
So really, saying “GamerGate drama happened” would suffice until some in-depth investigation is performed, which none of us have the energy to perform.
The most I can find is the following, and heavily condensed for here:
Felicia Day wrote/acted in/created an online webseries called “The Guild”. This is about a group of gamers who are close friends and go through a lot of stuff together. Something about this series led to someone calling her “Queen of the Geeks”, while there are a few arguments that Day’s done relatively nothing to the online gaming community. This was further picked at during the GamerGate issue, where Day expressed her own concerns about the doxxing (releasing of personal information) of others’ information by gamers making her afraid of the online gaming community, only to have her own information doxxed on the article where Day’s concerns were.
Again, this isn’t much, but it’s all I can find. If you ask me, it seems like a bit of an overreaction, but I don’t know nor can I seem to find the whole story.

I was unaware there was any kind of controversy with her, but I did know about her and Shatner being in this episode weeks in advance. And I also for a long time saw the evidence and suspected she and Shatner would play Applejack’s parents, though I was only half right in that regard.

I enjoyed the episode and knew Felicia Day was going to have a cameo in MLP, but I didn’t know it was this specific episode because I don’t usually check the credits or social media. However, she has a minor Internet hatedom to the point that there are probably more people who resent her than really enjoy her.
Whether or not she deserves it, I can at least say I understand why she’s unpopular and the episode will be a little less sterling in my memory for her involvement.
Of course he did. Why wouldn’t he?
@Background Pony #B269
What do you mean?
Hehe good one. (The MST3k The Return season was pretty good BTW. Hope they can make more.)
Amazed they got Shatner too.
Best Season 7 episode too. (Makes me miss my Dad…)

Don’t you mean Gen 5?
This isn’t news.
Yup, same as in “Pinkie Apple Pie.”
