Star Swirl doesn’t seem like the kind of pony who’d do the activities that would result in descendants.
 
But there is thematic parallels in both are magically powerful but were unempathetic and overly convinced their way was the only right way and screwed thing up with their magic.

If this is true, it makes the season finale so much more interesting, as Starswirl’s descendant learned the lessons on friendship that he couldn’t on his own, while Twilight fell into the same pitfalls as her idol and made the same mistakes he made.

Hmm… _Star_light and _Star_swirl, the cutie mark, their absurd magical power, their shared talent for magic dealing with cutie marks and time travel… intriguing. Intriguing.
 
I also feel like noting that, although I agree that the issues that Starswirl seems to have had with basic friendship likely mean he wasn’t much better at romance, the sheer distance in generations between the time of the Pillars and the present would also likely mean that it wouldn’t really matter all that much, strictly speaking, if Starlight was directly descended from a sibling or a first or even second cousin of Starswirl’s rather than the wizard himself.

Today I learned that Kanashiipanda may be an alias for someone working at Hasbro.

I’d do it this way; having an entire episode dedicated to Starlight tracking down Star Swirl’s family line to find out if he has any living relatives so he won’t feel alone in the present. We start getting hints all over the place about her being her descendant, only to find disappointment. Then the episode ends revealing to the audience via visual cue or something how Trixie is her descendant.

Magical cartoon friendship horses are one thing, but it strains believability to think that anypony would have ever hooked up with a dink like Beardo up there.

What kind of star is Starlight? A luminous blue variable? Nah. Maybe B or A on a good day.

Didn’t they describe starlight as having a mysterious past somewhere? Makes me think

That doesn’t mean Twilight’s not, though. A lot can happen in a thousand years. Most people in the UK can be traced back to William the Conqueror…

I don’t think that’s an accurate way to describe the cutie mark.
 
I do think her being his descendant would make a sense though. It would help in explaining why she’s got such unique and natural magic abilities.

Honestly I’ve wondered if they were going to go with this, but 1000 years is so distantly related it’s almost meaningless.

All things considered, this makes a little too much sense. Like, I wouldn’t be surprised if they heavily implied it to be true, drew lots of connections (Starlight, Starswirl, how Starlight easily used his unfinished spell, her insane power, etc.), asked Starswirl about it directly, and him going
 
“What are you on about? I never even really had friends (unless the pillars weren’t just allies to him), remember? Let alone a wife.”
 
“…Oh.”
 
And since this isn’t the kind of show to acknowledge hookers, I think we can rule that possibility out too.

There could easily be a relation yes, like the BP said, Starlight is the only pony proficient with those spells that we’ve seen, is close to Starswirl’s power, was the strongest unicorn in Equestria prior to Starswirl coming back, and even improved one of his own spells to a greater degree, the ‘Star’ part of her name, the Cutie Mark, the messy hornwriting is a cute addition too.

They’re also the only two known ponies to have created spells involving time travel and manipulating cutie marks.
