CANON
Why not both?
Edited
anything that even implies criticism towards the show will be down-voted here lol
Sure, but I don’t see it as a negative versus positive thing.
Maud being okay with throwing rocks and not being a prude to them, while Mud Briar being prudish about sticks is objectively parts of their character and it showcases them nicely how different they are.
That’s opinion tho.
I think I explained how Mud Briar doesn’t work as opposed to Maud:
“Maud is by no means annoying, she never comes across as condescending, Maud is weird and you can tell that each comment from her is made out of innocence and not knowing any better, she isn’t prudish and is pretty much up to anything. She is okay with you throwing rocks around, Mudbriar starts screaming about “stick abuse”.”
I think he works just fine, and I was starting to find Maud a bit annoying on her own.
I still fail to see much difference between them to warrant anyone disliking one immensely and liking the other.

What’s funny is that when Maud repeats the “technically” schtick after Mudbriar, she still comes off as innocent, probably because Maud repeats it just because she likes him and fids it cute, so she does it after him, yet even her tone when she does it sounds so innocent and sincere as if she was just genuinelly explaining herself.
Mudbriar just doesn’t come off that way, there’s nothing funny about “technically”, and it’s clear it’s supposed to be a running joke and only causes annoyances.
“But you ARE supposed not to like him! So see, good writting”
Yeah no, it’s obvious they want you to like Mudbriar the same way people love Maud, but he has none of the things that made Maud work.
Mudbriar doesn’t have the same dry monotone that Maud does, his voice comes off as more condescending, especially since his catchphrase is “Technically~~”. He is the “Ackchyually~~” guy but in MLP, and his cutie mark is literally a stick in the mud.

I commented before seeing the comment’s responses. I didn’t know I was beating a dead horse.
Of course they can, I’m just telling them that it’s not worth it.
Technically he still can comment about the subject…
Don’t bother, I already went over that.
You lost points for using mansplaining unironally.
Mansplaining is a dumb term.
NO, you do not get to pull that card.
