“Limestone, why!?”

Limestone Pie groaned softly as she trudged through the field of rocks, trying to block out the pink mare bounding after her. Pinkie Pie had been on her case for a long time now, ever since she found out what had happened.

”Why did you kick Maud out?”

”Because, Pinkie,” Limestone growled. “She broke Ma and Pa’s rules. If she doesn’t learn her lesson and act like she was raised right, she can’t be part of this family.”

”But Limestone!” Pinkie pleaded. “You didn’t have to kick her out! She’s our sister!”

”Pa always said if any of his daughters came home with a mare, they couldn’t be a Pie. And if Pa said it, he’s right.”

”Dad also said no music, or dancing, or parties! And he still loves me!”

”That’s different-“

Pinkie began walking backwards in front of her sister. She was unfazed by the rocks most would be tripping over, instead looking Limestone right in the eye. “Maud’s our sister too! Don’t you love your sisters?”

”Yes, Pinkie. But I don’t make the rules.“

The pink pony stopped and kneeled desperately at her sister’s hooves. ”You didn’t even invite her to your wedding! And at mine, you didn’t talk to her at all! What kind of pony doesn’t invite her sister to her own WEDDING?”

”Pinkie-“

”SHE HASN’T EVEN MET HER NEPHEW!”

”And she won’t!” Limestone shoved Pinkie aside and trotted over to where a pickaxe and a pile of rocks were waiting for her. “Hawk will NOT have that kind of influence in his life!”

”Even if he never gets to meet his auntie?”

”It’s for his own good.” Limestone took the pickaxe into her mouth and began chipping away at the rocks, ignoring her sister.

Pinkie stayed silent for a long, quiet moment, deep in thought. ”Remember when Maud met Mudbriar?”

Limestone continued picking away at the rocks, but tilted an ear back to listen.

“Remember when I came home the day before Maud’s party? How I said he was super duper weird and had no idea what she saw in him?”

With her back still turned, Limestone dropped the pickaxe and began to inspect the stones before her. But she couldn’t help but keep listening.

“And remember what you told me? You said Mud was a geode.” Pinkie reaches into her hair and pulled out a familiar rock filled with shimmering crystals. “A dirty, ugly rock on the outside, but a pretty gem to Maud. What mattered was that she was happy.”

Limestone stayed silent.

“And even though she and Mud broke up, she has a new geode. Trixie! If I had to accept Mud, can’t you accept Trixie, or whatever filly Maud loves? I should never have let how I felt get in the way of Maud’s happiness, and you shouldn’t either. Dad may have had a lot of rules, but he also said we should love our family.”

More silence followed.

Pinkie shook her head. “If you won’t talk to Maud again, at least I will. I’d never let my Best Sister Friend Forever down.” Her voice wavered. “But I just wanted you to know, she misses you so much. N-not that you even care…”

And with that, Pinkie was gone. But little did she know, Limestone was listening.

And she did care.
