Description

In all of Limestone Pie’s years of growing up under her father’s roof, she never questioned a thing he said. Even when the day came when she disowned her own sister, she felt justified because he said it was so. She was following the rules as she should.

Pinkamena had always gone against the rules. When everypony else was solemn and hard at work, she was smiling and partying. To Limestone, it was a wonder that Pa had welcomed Pinkie back to visit after she’d moved out. She was everything a Pie filly was not supposed to be.

But when Maud was caught kissing another mare, that was going too far. Limestone, with her parents backing her up, immediately ousted her from the family, and she was not to be seen for a long time afterwards. No action was more wrong in their eyes; not even Limestone’s bearing a foal out of wedlock warranted such harsh punishment. To Limestone, it made sense. Her Pa had spent years lecturing his daughters about it.

Pinkie had pestered them for over a year about it. She couldn’t even begin to comprehend why her family would kick Maud out for loving somepony they didn’t approve of. And how could she, if she was still accepted and loved for going against everything they believed in? Pinkie claimed there was some flaw to this logic, but Limestone insisted this situation was different. It had to be.

But now, as she stood on her long-lost sister’s doorstep, Limestone found herself agreeing with Pinkie more than ever. If Pa taught them to love their family, it made no sense to forfeit that under any condition. Even through all the disagreements and differences, family should stick together, right? Isn’t everypony a sinner?

For the first time in her life, Limestone was deliberately going against her father’s wishes. Right now, she was no better than Maud.

Taking a deep breath, Limestone knocked on the door and was greeted by the mare she had come to see. Maud Pie’s eyes widened slightly in surprise when she saw who was at the door.

“Limestone.”

”Uh…hey, Maud,” Limestone suddenly felt burning shame as she took Maud in and remembered all that she’d said the last time they met. And as she took notice of Maud’s new baby bump, she realized Hawk wouldn’t be the only one missing out on his own flesh and blood if she didn’t make amends.

”I came to apologize. What I said was really dumb. I shouldn’t have kicked you out like that.”

“But Mother and Father…”

”They were wrong. We were all wrong. Pinkie…helped us realize that. Maud, we want you back in the family.”
