I like to think that the clone babies thing means that if you went there now, you’d have pretty much the same roster with pretty much the same personalities even though they’ve got spaceships and flying cars and stuff. Megan met Firefly 52; Firefly 607 runs a ship that looks suspiciously like the Enterprise.

Even in FIM, it’s hard to pin down their ages. I mean, Rarity runs a company, travels the world on business trips… runs off crying when Fluttershy took assertiveness training too far and said something mean, had an episode about a sleepover with AJ and Twi that really feels like similar episodes in other shows about teenagers…
 
However, when it comes to the G1 gang, we have several ponies who are explicitly children and the others are pretty clearly quite older than them. “Older teen age” is the youngest I for one would put anyone who’s not explicitly a kid. And of course the ones with jobs kids almost certainly wouldn’t have (or offspring kids certainly shouldn’t have) are probably older.
 
(Though when it comes to the picture’s accuracy, again, for Firefly to be 50 now she’d have only had to be 12 then. If she were 16, then Dash is just making a tiny mistake when she assumes someone who is in her mid-50s is actually in her late 50s.)
 
But, nothing wrong with that. Time passes, no one stays young forever, and getting older is a lot better than the alternative! We’ve been imagining Firefly as a hot MILF this long, since most considered her to be Dash’s mom until we met the real ’rents. No reason not to keep doing it.

I always felt that even the older ponies weren’t really that old, they certainly never seemed to act that mature (imho they seem more similar in terms of maturity to Megan herself).

And at the very start, they were already adults(?), so it’s their starting “age” when they popped into existence + however many years until now, hence 50s.

50 years? Um…just how old do you think G1 is anyway, Rainbow?
 
For reference, it started in 1981, making the franchise 38 years old. I never got the feeling that the ponies in G1 were very old, as they tended to behave most often like older adolescents (with the exception of some hyper-mature ones like Wind Whistler, North Star, etc), so they’d probably be less than 50 even so.
