Pretty old comment, but your desire is pretty canon as is actually. Even in the mlp movie the magically resistant material has been shown to be overloaded and destroyed. One catch. It takes a stupid amount of magic to do that. The staff of saconis obliterated the cage housing twilight composed of likely the same material the troops’ shields are made of. So be super empowered tirek or twilight. Problem solved.
Saw it myself. I ain’t gonna argue with your summation.
I saw zoombies, it was so stupid
Ghost Yak? Sounds like a SyFy Original movie.
Hey, they did ‘Zoombies’, a movie where zoo animals all turn into flesh-eating zombies. Would it really be all that unlikely for them to make one about ghost yaks killing people?
I don’t really have any comment on the Storm Troopers. I just wanted to discuss yaks.
I mean I get why the writers did it. They wanted to hurry up and set the scene so they ran down the check list of things they had to do to set the story.
Introduce goodguys.
Introduce badguys.
Make badguys threatening.
Have a reason the mane 6 escape.
Have a reason for them to start their adventure.
I’m not trying to imply Twilight is godhood or anything, but we have seen her lift far larger things than a trooper - and actually put up more of a fight - since even before when she was an alicorn. I’m pretty sure the writers just wanted to hurry it along and had the ponies scatter rather than fight back because it was convenient to starting the story they actually wanted to do: the adventure.

I’m sure there are some magic resistant things. Especially considering that there’s stuff that erases magic like those artifacts at the end of the last season. But I don’t think that applies to the Storm Troopers’ armor.

We have never seen her this powerful. The sun goddess Celestia is a fandom thing that has no support anywhere.
The most powerful she ever was portrayed was against Chrysalis (in the comics so b-canon)
Maybe different yaks are resistant to magic to different degrees, to the point that a child like Yona wouldn’t be allowed to fight in a war, but Prince Rutherford would be able to go one on one with Celestia.
Getting back to this picture, though, the image of Celestia using her full power against an army wouldn’t happen. It’s not her style. We saw her style in the Crystal War timeline.
Hmm. I must have forgotten about that. I just think its ridiculous how much lengths magic resistant items would go to regardless of the strength of the opposing magic user.
There was a magic suppression ring in one of the Daring Do adventures? Just shows much I know since I dislike reading.
Sorry. The official content can only provide so much implications and theories.
Like I said, I’m fine with magic resistant stuff. But depending how strong the magic user is and the quality of the magic resistant item, you might get an unexpected outcome.
Fair enough, but you also miss the point of overwhelming your enemies. Twilight lost to a goon by her own power. First 15 Minutes of battle every unicorn that trys this approach is down (First fight instinct of Starlight? Magicblast, rebound, down). Most ponies there were no fighters because it was a festival.
So in the Movie example this is peasants VS shock cavalry.
But you want 1 character to defeat an army. Say how overpowered do you want your maincharacters to be?
The ponies never outsmarted their enemies. The only ones that trick their way to victory are the Flim Flam Brothers and Cozy Glow.
Movie examples aside, it’s still reasonable to imagine that in a world where magic exists, creatures would also exist who are impervious, or at least resistant, to it.
In the movie there was a single attempt to attack the Storm King’s apes at all. One attack which was deflected. That’s like swinging a sword, it gets blocked, and then everyone that witnessed the block screaming how the enemy is immune to swords. The rest of the movie they’re only running away.
I feel pretty certain the storm king army only won that because no one actually fought back. They just ran around.
The writers wanted to give Twilight and her friends a high-stakes reason to start their adventure. They just threw idiot balls at every pony character to do it.
Well Twilight used magic on the Stormguards and it blasted her own group out of canterlot. And the IDEA of magic surpressing rings around the horn was if I remember correctly a thing from the MLP books done by Auhizotl.
And you really should distance your arguement from fan productions like clopfics and pics.
The thing is the writers need something to buff the enemies with all the magic powers flowing around without resolving the problem with Power Creep.
And in a world with magic it is not to hard to imagine that resistance to magic evolves as well or the folks are creating ways to fight magic in the first place.

ORK! ORK! ORKS!

They can be impervious to magic all they want, but I’m pretty sure that beam wouldn’t actually have to hit them, it’d probably flash fry them through convection alone.

Orks iz best at WAAAGH!
If I can interject, the only point I wanted to make is that yaks must have some edge that would make war with Equestria not a lost cause.
I just find it a bit ridiculous that the slightest bit of magic “resistance” material makes me immune to every kind of magic regardless of how powerful the opponent is. Ponies like Twilight and Starlight can snap stuff like those magic suppression rings you see in most clop pics if someone tried to neutralize their magic.
…or am I the only one who could see (and hear) a Squidbilly-esque show but with Yaks?
