Well, I always thought that she was on the kind of probation where if she went back to her old tricks then she’d be sent straight to Tartarus like Cozy Glow was in S8 after explicitly expressing her intent to offend again.

Exactly. You cannot dismiss Discord’s jackyayery to chaotic quirkiness. That does not excuse him sending Twilight’s friends on a wild goose chase so he could be a menace to the school of friendship. Nor does it excuse him bringing three dangerous criminals together and abusing them to ensure they work together to attack Twilight knowing fully well they’d lose at best or die at worst (as seen with Sombra). The only thing that comes close to a fitting punishment for him is his immortality as he can never see his beloved Fluttershy again. Even then, it will never make me forgive him as the ends he wanted NEVER. EVER. Justify the means.

Ignorance does not equate to innocence-thats why manslaughter is a thing.

More so the problem is usually the amount of effort put in with Starlight and the fact that had Twilight dragged her to any of the other timelines, Starlight would not have backed down.

There was zero real effort put forth for people with actual issues more complex then abandonment issues.

Which is a point against reformative action being the basis of their choices.

They spent effort where it was easy(and by chance manipulative) and refused to put forth any where actually required, alongside multiple Deus Ex Machina’s that put the actual structure of their world into question often being used as justification for doing nothing/turning a blind eye.

They equate forgiveness with forgetting 90% of the time and even if it was probation it was legitimately equivalent to at worst a slap on the wrist seeing as no actual consequence or reprimand was made outside of “You’re sorry, try again.” For both Starlight and Discord.

Starlight is understood-the utter incompetence and two faced action preceded by writing bending over backwards to never address the failings of multiple people who’ve caused equal if not worse damage out of convenience os where Starlight and Discord are despised.

I don’t care if god vouches for him, I’d curse Discord out and his friends regardless of their legacy or intent purely because they lack any sense of responsibility or proper care for anything around them when it’s not going to make them look good.

Hell even if the new comics I feel no sympathy for Discord-he got a taste of what he’s undoubtedly put hundreds of thousands through in a dozen ways and hadn’t learned a single thing in thousands of years.

Theres a point of “Why should I be the bigger person when you clearly can not do the same?”

I’ll say it until the end of time, a lot of people misunderstand what happened with Starlight.

Firstly, she didn’t know that she was causing damage to entire timelines. In fact, she became baffled and even accused Twilight of LYING once she started to learn about it. Then she peacefully surrendered after accepting Twilight’s offer to give friendship another chance, and then she even told the gang that she’d accept any punishment to make amends. She showed true remorse.

At that point, punishment for the sake of punishment wouldn’t accomplish much.
In the world of MLP, crime and punishment works reformatively, not punitively.
And since Starlight was already reformed (which is different from REDEEMED btw),
the mane six were presented with a complex problem.
They outright said that they were willing to forgive, but they also didn’t want to trust her to be unsupervised just yet.

So what happened next?
Twilight decided to help rehabilitate Starlight and pass down her friendship lessons, to improve her chances of earning her freedom.

Because in case you never picked up on it:
Starlight spent season 6 in the equivalent of a PRISON SENTENCE PROBATION.
She was on supervised release, under the immediate care of a Princess.
Unlike what many want to think, what Starlight did was treated seriously.
It’s just that since she showed remorse and willingness to learn, she was given the chance to prove she could earn another chance.
It was also implied that her probation would have lasted for much longer if it wasn’t for her heroics in the S6 finale.
THAT was when she was redeemed. A full season after her reformation. That’s how you do atonement.

Media literacy, folks.
The gaping hole in the brain of everyone who thinks Starlight was instantly cleared.

I want to make it clear that i didn’t think it was fair that Starlight went unpunished even after almost wiping out the entire universe, although in g5 it is implied that g4 had an apocalyptic ending, so it is likely that among the many who suffered at that time, Starlight also suffered it, although she was the only one who deserved it.

If any are seeing my comment, just letting you Bronies know that I’m coming up with a forthcoming my little pony series that takes place a few years after twilight sparkle became celestia and Luna’s sucsessor and fewer-many years before the events of mlp: a new generation: the series I’m making for Hasbro maybe generation six, but it is a midquel between G4 and G5 with apple bloom, scootaloo and sweetie belle as late-teenage school teachers’ apprentices to starlight glimmer and sunburst at the school of friendship along with some older characters. Then one night at the canterlot gardens, a pack of thieves made up of an anthropomorphic Jackalope, able bodied white/Siamese cat, basilisk, lamia, mystical raptorian and flying monkey steal the stoned statue of lord Tirek, queen chrysalis and cozy glow to grogar’s lair where tirek’s Shakespearean cousin releases the trio from their stone prison and plot their vengeance on the past few years; Tirek and chrysalis secretly create a vulnerable way to capture the Cerberus, bugbear, cockatrice, chimera, manticore, and other evil equestrian wildlife from Tartarus and destroy the whole prison landmark while cozy glow grows up to blend in with the present beginning to wear a medieval style armor. Her mask and helmet reflects this style with chess rook-like horn as well they are the colors of the darkside. She also wears a cape to hide her wings, and after the now late-teen Pegasus’ makeover is complete cozy glow will be dubbed as “Painful Rook”, enslaving the powerless creatures from a destroyed Tartarus! Feeling the power of their cutie marks, our three heroes head out of ponyville and accidentally meet three stallions their age, a Hispanic unicorn, and British surfing Pegasus and a martial arts earth pony as well as a teenage dragon named Carly, whome are being hunted by the villains I mentioned; in any case the only way for the cutie mark crusaders and their new friends, the harmony keepers, is to find six elements descended from the elements of harmony I call “the elements of crusading”, very close to Grogar’s land and other places in Equestria… and eventually find out who Painful rook really is.
