Tagging ‘japanese’ here is unfitting, consider Japanese people never make bootlegs, they always take their pride making original stuffs, whether good or not. (Except for the “hentai versions” stuffs, RIP Woody)
Meanwhile ‘chinese’ is more fitting, to be honest, this country loves making their own copy of western brands (and many take pride of it, their products are mixed bags as well, many want to be “businessly independent from the west”), and there are no Japanese-exclusive letters here. (So far PVZ is one of the few Western franchises where Chinese respect the original the most, and extend on their own in their own edition)

It’s a pretty good looking knockoff imho. Plastic/mold quality is probably not great but if I had the money (and could actually find it) I’d buy it.

You are saying that about one of the least free countries in the developed world, but that’s neither here nor there.
What it does mean is there are an immense number of duplicate products from China. All you need to do to see that is look up ‘Chinese knockoff products’ and you will see quite a few examples of that.

Gen 5 isn’t a knockoff, though….
Also, I find it quite amusing to see another knockoff that comes from China. That country seems to have more knockoff brands than any other country I have seen. I hear that is because they don’t have any copyright laws, meaning anyone can copy anything and resell it.
