I feel like a lot of people did like the ship in the movie, but were a little bit skeptical about it due to the short screentime they had, also, a lot of people already had an “lesbian Zipp” headcanon, so they decided to ship Hitch with Sunny or Pipp instead.
But both Tell Your Tale and Make Your Mark show us more of their dynamic and duo potential, and that was the missing piece that made people actually like the ship

Is anyone else surprised that HitchZipp is as popular as it is? I remember when the movie came out I was like:“Well, this is a good ship, but it surely won’t last just… because”, then MYM: Part 1 and the station scene happened, and I was like: “Holy crap, these two have no right having such an amazing chemistry together!”
