Wouldn’t be surprised if Giygas was one of the main reasons the game got a T-rating on Virtual Console. (I was expecting the game to get at least an E-10 rating.)  
Well, that, and the subtle vulgar jokes, the use of the word “crap,” and enemy sprites that feature blood like on the Kraken boss’s teeth. Some of the cool background music was a li’l creepy to.  
The game got away with alot for a K-A/Everyone ESRB rated game back in 1995. (Especially using the word “crap,” which was still considered practically a cuss-word back then. Quite shocking considering Nintendo of America’s usual censorship policies back in the ‘90s.)
 
Though, that’s kinda what I love about “EarthBound.” The game is kind of cute, yet kinda dark at the same time, as well.
 
At least Nintendo isn’t censoring the game just to get the E-rating. (The ESRB also bumped up “Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D”‘s rating from the original’s E-rating, and it got rated E-10. Even with the censored green blood during the final battle/s, and Ruto’s “nudity” being a bit censored to with some kinda weird fin bikini.)
