If I have to explain to you why branding a person is grimdark, you shouldn’t be allowed within fifty feet of children. Not even joking.
 
You can get off on this sort of thing if you want, people are into all sorts of reprehensible things and there’s nothing wrong with that as long as they’re confined to illustration and fantasy and don’t hurt anyone, but if you honestly don’t understand why this qualifies as grimdark then there is something fundamentally broken in your brain and you should probably be on some kind of watchlist.
