Given her powers at the time, she probably could stop time at will. How long did she spend in her house, looking at the frozen world (and the massive fireball stuck mid-air) outside? Going through her books, sleeping in her own bed, one more time. Thinking if she could somehow deflect the incoming fireball, but you can’t do that when the world is stopped. Nothing works if time is stopped. Until she finally gives up, grabs the owl, unfreezes time and teleports out, knowing she can’t do anything but to accept the fate.

Twilight didn’t just grab Owlowiscious and flee. She saw Tirek’s magic coming and teleported into the house, grabbed Owlowiscious, and then teleported out with him.
 
She deliberately went into the danger to save her owl.

Owlowiscious looks as if he literally doesn’t know what is going on

At least we can hope it’ll be cathartic when they address this topic in the next season as they’ve mentioned they’re going to be doing.  
Which it probably will for some, and for others they’ll continue to bitch and complain.
