Honestly, these ladies have the right idea.

Zecora: But Nightmare Moon wants just one thing: to gobble up ponies in one quick swing!  
Pipsqueak and Pinkie Pie: [scream]  
Zecora: Hungrily, she soars the sky. If she sees nopony, she passes by. So if she comes and all is clear, Equestria is safe another year!
 
Given that this is the concept, dressing up as, I don’t know, something other than a pony seems like the thing to do. And yet…

I wonder how Smolder, Gallus, and Ocellus would react to seeing their species being appropriated for Nightmare Night.

I honestly thought that that was a deer costume until I saw the beak, or something like Little Strongheart who looks a hella lot more like a deer than a buffalo.
 
Poor Little Strongheart, Season 5’s return to Appleloosa completely forgot her :(

Is it just me or doesn’t the changeling and timber wolf look more like Lyra and Bon Bon? The hair is all wrong color wise, but the skin texture sure seems spot on and they are in costume.

Between season 3 and the season 5 split, Rarity had: Rarity Takes Manehattan, Simple Ways co-starring with AJ, Inspiration Manifestation shared with Spike, and maybe at a stretch Sweetie Belle Toils with Sweetie and Luna.
 
Rainbow Dash in the same time had: Wonderbolts Academy, Daring Don’t, Rainbow Falls, Testing Testing 1 2 3, Tanks for the Memories, and Lost Treasure of Griffonstone with Pinkie Pie
 
Applejack had Apple Family Reuinion, Leap of Faith, Spike at your Service with Spike, Bats with Fluttershy, Pinkie Apple Pie with Pinkie, Simple Ways with Rarity, Somepony To Watch Over Me with Applebloom, and maybe considered for Appleoosa’s Most Wanted with the CMC.

Since season 2, AKA, literally half of the entire show’s run, up until this second half of the season, she hasn’t had a single episode. She long ago supplanted AJ as the background pony.

That would totally happen.

I really think that what Flutters was doing to survive nightmare night was super fun, creating a fortress with fun to spend the night was one of my fav things as a kid.
