Art critique thread (SFW)

For anyone who wants to figure out why they are getting downvotes, and for others to benefit from the experience as well. Anyone can post art and make critique.

This will end well.

Sure. Just… maybe not your NSFW stuff. I’d rather keep this thread safe/suggestive, and have another thread for more adult stuff, should the need arise.
 
It may also help if you state what you’re aiming for. For example: exaggeratedly cartoonish or more realistic, scary, funny, etc.

Maybe tone the size down a bit and replace the circles with just dots.
 
Maybe it’s just me, but I found their size to be a bit jarring, and for a moment I thought they were extra tiny eyeballs because of the color of her coat. I’m all for something like freckles on a tiny horse, and while I think the rest of the picture is good, the freckles can be toned down a bit and the impact of them would be less jarring and of a natural thing, if that makes any sense.

The biggest issue I can see right now is the incorrect anatomy when you draw the front view, for 2 reasons:

I understand what you mean. I know a few people who think the freckles look a bit weird… I’ve tried a few different things in the past, but to be honest they looked even worse than they do now… hopefully I can figure out something soon.
 
I tried just black circles at first but they looked the worst xD So then I switched to gray outlines and gray filled-in circles in which it just didn’t match with the rest of the drawing.

Oh, I probably should’ve stated earlier… I’m not trying to make it look realistic. It’s just a cartoony style of mine.
 
I’m not entirely sure how to keep line thickness constant throughout the whole image though… it’s something I definitely have to work on. I never have a constant pressure I push on my tablet so I struggle as far as line thickness. I think I’m gonna try out thinning the lines though :D

Well, look at AJ’s freckles.
 

 
Tiny, yet notable due to contrast with her coat.
 
Putting freckles on a white coat is kind of tough because white is such an easy color to contrast against, though - it’s so easy to steal all of the attention away instead of just some of it that we can get an end product where the only real notable thing about it is the one thing that steals all of the attention, and if the one thing that steals all of the attention is something that could be executed better…
 
I admire your desire to put freckles on your OC and I completely support that, because being honest, without them I don’t see a whole lot to discern it from other OCs. I say your best shot would be tiny, dark gray circles just above her nose that don’t creep up to the top of her eyes. I think this would give it a bit of a cutesy feel without detracting too much attention away from important areas such as her eyes and mane. This is just what I think, though, and there’s a shot I could be wrong :V

Style is something to be experimented, explored and improved. Right now, that front-view muzzle style is limiting your options in expression. Therefore, I would recommend playing around with it, see if you can include the mouth in it, because frankly, even the simplest expression of “smile” needs a mouth :).
 
As for the freckles, try making it lighter, and use dots instead of circles.

I wanna get some critique while it is in a sketch. :0  
This will be my first art piece on here so I want to make sure it’s good.  
It’s a human Maud Pie. I probably will make her skin tone like her pony (“Equstria Girl style”)  
I know her neck is awkward.  
Also have been debating on putting pony ears on her, maybe I need opinions.

There’s symmetrical issues. Her left eye (right on your side) is lower and further to the side than the other side. Eyebrows length doesn’t match. The chin also looks off to one side.

I see what you mean. I never knew I had a problem with symmetry. I’ll fix all that right away, pony ears or no pony ears though?

I’m having some issues with a certain pose:
 

 
I would like the pose to be like this but with the lower half of her body twisting so that it lays on the side instead. I don’t think I’m getting the hind legs quite right, so anyone has a suggestion? Of course, please help me with any other issues as well, if you spot any.

The hind legs shouldn’t really be right on top of each other like that, but more like next to each other

If you’re having trouble with a pose, it’s generally a good idea to look at a pony or another four-legged animal in a similar pose to get the general idea

Same with the legs here, they should be a tad longer i think. Unless you’re going for foal proportions.

I intend this thread to help people on good art foundations. Questionable and explicit gets into mature anatomy and fetishes, which has little to do with that intention, so I’d rather keep those topics in a separated thread. So if you need help on NSFW stuff, feel free to make another thread, and we’ll go over there to help if we can. As for this thread though, suggestive should be the maximum rating.
