Who choses which image to put as featured? I know that there are lot of incompetent moderators here, but this, as a featured image? Instead of real art? Are you nuts?

My guess is the uploader, Nittany Discord, featured it. I agree with you that this probably wasn’t the best idea for an image to feature on the front page.

Well, don’t forget that what we consider art or not is merely subjective and what should think as it it’s a debate that has been going since a long time. It’s alright if you don’t like it and don’t take that image as such, but also I believe it’s important to recognize that not for everyone the story is like that; it’s like not liking some food and being hostile to the ones that enjoys it.
 
Who choses? The staff vote all together and no one can vote for their own submission. Derpibooru is a site with a variety of artists and topics, if we always decide for the ‘standard’, we wouldn’t be giving the chance to others to have more recognition and encouragement to keep improving.
 
The only time that a featured image isn’t voted it’s for special events such as the Community Collaboration.
