thanks. I wasn’t overly fond of Tom Tom much, I thought I couldn’t come up with a better name but funnily enough I think of wonder about a name months after I settled on it.  
but yeah, I think I like Thunderbeat much better. & with that, I may just update his cutie mark too.

Could anyone help me with something? I have a plot point in mind for my comic regarding one of my main characters, and I’m worried that it might come off as an unintentional racist stereotype.

Alrighty. So, these are the two main characters in my comic. On the right is Alexandra “Al” Roth, and on the left is her best friend, Sabrina Rose.  

 
As one of the plot points, I want to make one of the two main characters have really controlling (to the point of being abusive) parents. (Because ANGST.)  
But I’m afraid that if I go with Sabrina’s parents being that way, it will follow the common stereotype of Asian parents having really high expectations and shaming their children for not achieving.
 
The other idea I had in mind is for Al to have the controlling parents, contributing to her silently rebelling and becoming the asocial emo we all know and love, and for Sabrina to have much looser, perhaps hippie parents.
 
What do you advise?

I think the second option seems better imo.
 
Would be a good reason for her to be emo, and it avoids the stereotype of the Asian having really controlling parents.

Also might be better to post about them in this thread, since that is or non-mlp ocs

I’m not sure, I don’t really see issue with either, and I think character development should take precedence over assumed stereotypes. You can always try and utilize the stereotypes to your advance and play with them, or just play it straight if it works for the narrative.

Hmm. I’d say go for the latter.

So I’ve been thinking more of my demon baby’s backstory and personality. Only issue is, well he’s confined to a dream, so not much to be done with that, right?  
 
Well, I thought about how he can escape the dream, demon powers and all, and end up in ‘reality’, and then can he experience just how messed up his origins and biology are, and possible age up faster so he can be a young adult before his parents get older.
 
Basically, how do I have ‘literally born from a dream into reality’ make sense, pony world sense. So like, magic of course.

If the Tantabus can escape from the dream realm, then I don’t see why he can’t either. Maybe he found a portal (or created one).

I was thinking like, a really bad nightmare causes zombie ‘dad’ a lot of pain and distress, so siren ‘dad’ uses a spell to cleanse his mind from all the pain and bad thoughts, but all that cleansing manifests the pain into a physical form in the egg from the nightmares. It makes the pain go away, but now the nightmare baby is real.

I’ve mused that his (zombie) real special talent is manifesting nightnares/dreams into reality, as he has a lot of them that influence reality in small ways. Making a dream baby isn’t that farfetched. Wouldn’t that technically make him the mother? hmm…

That’s a cool (but horrifying ability) but fitting for a zombie. And possibly he’s both the baby’s mother and father in a sense.

I really struggle with figuring out talents for ponies. I try to avoid making them literal to their butt marks, but I also barely think of them at all. Need to work on that.

As the show goes on it makes cutie marks and character names gradually more on the nose for their talents. I personally appreciate all efforts to make them a bit more thoughtful.

I prefer it being less literal. Like why did Marble Pie need MARBLES on her butt? Marble is a type of stone. So is Limestone, it’s not literally a lime and rocks. I mean, okay, marble and limestone would be less distinct, but c’mon.

Random question but, if I ever made adoptable OCs, would anyone be interested?

Marble Pie having marbles is less literal, compared to having marble (the stone) or an actual marble cake.
 
Limestone, though, I didn’t even remember what her cutie mark was until I looked her up just now. It’s a (citrus) lime. And some stones. And that is incredibly stupid, but then her name just isn’t much to work with. I suppose we could infer the citrus lime is a reference to her sour personality. If it was just the lime, and not also the stones, it might be a better mark actually.

I feel incredibly dumb about my OC names more often than not. I kinda think my best one was randomly generated, honestly. D: And I’m not even super fond of that particular OC.
