I completely understand what it is you’re trying to accomplish, and my response is from going back to the beginning of the discussion and reading through.

So if you haven’t figured it out by now, there’s no specific audience appeal on Derpibooru. This isn’t a little forum or small group site with some members. It’s an image hosting site with a flavor of interactive social media with tens of thousands of active users. I would say basically DeviantArt for My Little Pony, but it looks like your DA profile is also only a month old so I don’t know what your experience is with it.

It would be like asking what kind of specific content YouTube users look for. It’s impossible to answer. However, I can gleam some noticable differences and help you with reaching an audience.

Derpibooru allows every kind of imaginable content, barring extremely few illegal exceptions. For bronydom, The freedom and variety here is second to none. People come here to find and browse almost all drawn images all bronies make. Like, almost everything meant to see the light of day is here. To do this, we use specific search tags. The more tags used in an image, the greater the possibility the image is seen when users search.

Account users also follow specific tags to see selected, related images more conveniently. For example, Pinkamena Diane Pie is my favorite character, and so I follow that image tag. Every time I access Derpibooru, images of her show up on the page for me.

Because the image library is so broad with so many users, it doesn’t matter what you draw, your target audience is here. However, Derpibooru is also jokingly considered a clop site because NSFW images are allowed here and it’s one of the few, concentrated locations for pony NSFW, so everyone and their dogs interested in that come here.

Derpibooru is also a good platform to acquire followers to other sites. I saw your profile and noticed you don’t add image link sources, like to DeviantArt or Twitter. That’s important because the #1 reason users without accounts come to Derpibooru is to find alternative sources and artist names to art they have seen. I have several brony friends for instance who don’t regularly use Derpibooru, but they know how, and they use DeviantArt accounts to follow pony art content instead.

.
I’m listing these others to share my experience and knowledge if it helps, in comparison to Derpibooru.

DeviantArt is also extremely broad but of course it carries a lot more than ponies (though we bronies thoroughly invaded it anyway). DA’s impossibly extensive library and complex search features makes it more difficult to sort out content.

So like YouTube, chain information is the way to get noticed. Its social structure is that account users typically join interest groups and follow those; that’s the beating heart. You can’t just upload images there and expect followers because they won’t see your work, especially if you don’t use a LOT of tags. But once art is added to Fav folders of other users, that information shows up on the side as related. Repeated views and higher Fav count generates more ‘offside’ images where your gallery and Fav folders show more content almost like ads on the corner of the eye.

So submit to as many active groups with a lot of members you can find. If someone fancies your work and likes several images, they are more likely to just Follow you. So now they see images in groups they follow and users they follow.

You can’t follow tags like you can on Derpibooru, so DA is more zeroed in. DA is also the most common image source for other sites to use. Like many artists use Twitter, but provide links to DA source. And like Derpibooru, it’s audience is extremely broad.

.

Facebook is where I hail from. And I’ve come to realize that in the brony fandom, typically you’re either on Facebook, or everywhere else. If you have regular accounts in multiple websites, you’re usually doing it for content sharing as I’ll explain.

Facebook is for bored people to scroll a single timeline that crams new content posts of everything you Follow and chat with similarly bored friends and family. Unless you specifically unfollow people or places, you can scroll for an eternity for an endless supply of entertainment.

So you can search things, but it’s only ideal to find a specific post, and not many people use the search function. Instead, people join interest groups, like DA, but also Follow Facebook pages and follow other people’s profiles on their friend’s list. Pages and very popular Facebook profiles are the beating heart here. Excluding YouTube and news media links, 90% of what people want come from pages and/or profiles. Groups do it as well, but people share things they think would be of interest to the group from other sources. Pages ensure a consistent quality of content to whatever topic of entertainment it’s followers want.

So where do Facebook pages get their content? They either make it themselves, share from another page, but most often it’s an external place on the Internet. Like a brony page owner has a Derpibooru account and they will share an image they see. That image then gets re-shared in chains all over Facebook, since friends following friends, groups, and pages will see the content show up in their timeline.

Bronies outside of Facebook generally don’t realize how extensive but secluded the fandom is over there. But that’s because the content is brought to them instead of thrm having to find it.

Bad things about Facebook… Zuccerberg hates what Facebook has become and wants it to be a place friends and family exclusively use real life profiles. He also signed contracts with government agencies for “security” reasons, so Facebook isn’t very kind to fake or double profiles since these agencies like to use Facebook to track people and their content freely.

Facebook is also stingy about NSFW. Even exclusive hidden Facebook groups for NSFW content frequently get nuked as algorithm bots automatically log, cover, and block users and their content instead of having actual investigations. Facebook is also becoming very politically touchy.

BUT once you’re lodged into the brony community there, it’s 10x easier to get your OC and their art noticed than anywhere else. Like, OCs are where it’s at in this place. There’s millions of base edits of OCs that never see Derpibooru or anywhere else. Most users also use DA as a hub for DA points and Facebook became like a garage sale bazzar for cheap commissions.

If you frequently draw specific popular characters, it’s also easy to get noticed there as Facebook groups are easier to make and maintain than DA. This means more groups and more specific interests like certain characters or content have their own group. Each page and group come with their own timeline features, scroll down for everything. But unlike other places, Facebook timelines pit the most-recent posts and most-recently commented posts at the top of groups. So a very popular post inducing comments will feed on more popularity as each comment bumps it back to the top.

.

Tumblr kinda killed itself, but if you had a blog or comic series, this was the #1 place to put it. Very popular artists still have a hub here, but it’s vacated so much it’s hard to chain up any notice. It’s also complicated and not very user-friendly.

.

Twitter is where the Tumblr exodus went. But Twitter is more designed to keep up with regular day-to-day updates of celebrities, interest movements, and events. Basically a place for simple and quick announcements. It’s literally good for nothing else. So artists that already have a following can work out in Twitter. And it’s strict image preview guides are so horrible that it’s not very good for posting images. Also, the best way to acquire more is to draw things related to those already popular, tag them in the post, and hope they share it to their many followers.

But Twitter is relatively small compared to other places. An artist with a few hundred Twitter followers and a few dozen re-shares on their works can have tens of thousands on DeviantArt. I also think most Twitter users already use other social media, but like I said; it’s a hub for the rich, famous, and events. So long as those share your work, you can grab some eyeballs.

.

Reddit is also decent, but you usually gotta make some decent or good stuff to get there I think. I don’t use it so not 100% sure, but seems like they just want pre-existing popular stuff.

I can’t speak for FurAffinity, I don’t have a presence there. I’ve apparently got a following on Instagram, but it’s so stingy about how it wants to work not a good place for artists unless you take pics on your phone. So I don’t do anything with that. Plus I’m sure most are Facebook users anyhow.

.
.

The best place though? Equestria Daily. EQD has a presence in Facebook, Twitter and is its own site. If you get works posted up there, your view count can skyrocket like you wouldn’t believe. But good luck. Almost all the content has to go through only two guys, so if you don’t hit a sweet spot with them, you won’t make it.

Their Open Art Compilation posts is a recent thing they started, but it’s pretty much a participation trophy. For the most part, only the artists in those posts and very dedicated EQD followers really notice those.

Whoa thanks. I never use fb, so that’s news to me….

Like I said, you’re typically either a regular on Facebook, or you’re everywhere else. Case in point, sure I’ve reached the maximum limit of 5,000 friends on Facebook and I have an additional 1,500 or so followers between my group, page, and profile… but I came out here and realized that means jack apples.

Comics, short videos, and memes also do incredibly well on Facebook.

The main problem with Facebook is that most people save images directly to their devices, and then upload them on Facebook with little or no text. So you look at it and you just have to know whose art style that is; though ideally it’s assumed you’re pretty established in the fandom if your work shows up around Facebook because your fans shared it there.

Im thinking about doing some piss fetish artworks. It’s been getting attention (especially with the whole || art pack:i-cup watersports pack || thing)

All in all, i like this fetish , so I might do it.

I want to do 2 versions (well make it 4 for the non piss fetish versions) each of 2 characters: Autumn Blaze and Cinder Glow .

Of course it’s gonna be non forced pissing because pissing should be something of relief and enjoyment.

Okay everypony. APPARENTLY, my art is trash, so i need to fix it, if you’ll excuse me, i have to work on my shitty artwork. I know it’s not 100% terrible, but it seems you cant be an artist on derpibooru unless you appease the users.

Like Lauren Faust said, everyone has a thousand shitty images in them - but you only have to draw a thousand drawings to get the shitty ones out of your system and then all your drawings will be good.

Or, at least, a different level of shitty.
