When I saw the trailer for the new Rambo movie, I just rolled my eyes cause they’re obviously milking these movies for all their worth.

The Rambo movies bother me because the original film, First Blood, was about the mistreatment of war veterans with PTSD after Vietnam… and then the sequels all completely missed the first movie’s point. Looks like this one will, too.

I’m a bit late on this, but the Rise of Skywalker final trailer dropped a few days ago.

Considering the movie has apparently made back a lot more money then it’s budget, I say the controversies must have helped.

I don’t think that one bombed because of “controversy.” Pretty sure it bombed because it just plain sucked.

Also, because you put it that way, Joker apparently is a good movie, and mostly everyone’s not wrong about it. That’s why it became another one of the highest-grossing R-rated films. It even beat Deadpool.
 
Also, not every bad movie flopped and not every good movie succeed fyi.

Battleship. I fully recognize that it’s not really a good movie, but I genuinely enjoy it.

Oh yeah, tastes are always going to be subjective. And just because it makes money doesn’t mean it’s good - Michael Bay’s Transformers sequels kept making millions and millions with each release, while also getting dumber and dumber.
 
Joker has had an amazing performance. What’s interesting, though, is the rumor that I’ve heard was that Phillips and Phoenix originally just wanted to do a straight up drama focusing on mental illness and social isolation/alienation, but the only way they could get funding for it was to adapt it as Joker origin story. Don’t know if there’s any truth to the rumor or not, but if so…that’s actually kind of a sad.

Your first point is something I wish people would understand when it comes to the logic of “Money will keep companies alive” as a response to my fears of Disney going out of business because everyone hates them now.

Just rented and saw three movies: Toy Story 4, Detective Pikachu and Spider-Man: Far From Home. The first one was meh, the second one I enjoyed and the third one I liked.

Armageddon seems like one of those movies where you either love it, you hate it or you’re inbetween considering the infamy of the director. I’m gonna consider watching it sometime with all of this in my mind, that and the fact that Aerosmith sold out writing a song for this movie.

Eh, I don’t consider it a sellout song. They’ve done slower ballads before. I do find it a little weird to think about that many Generation Z kids were probably conceived to that song, though.

It just doesn’t sound “Aerosmith” to me and it’s just an empty shell of a song with a cheesy chorus and a production that blatantly screamed “Give us an Oscar”. (If you’re reading between the lines: I don’t like this song)

But I get why you might not. It’s definitely not their best song and it is cheesy as hell. But IMO, it’s the perfect cheesy, melodramatic ballad for the soundtrack of a cheesy, melodramatic film! (Which Armageddon certainly is. :P)
