Well, Ben has better chemistry with Gwen than his other love interests. They put Gwen with Kevin in latter versions because the wrights didn’t like the popular ships with Ben where gay and incest.
 
Then they made Gwen drugs to Kevin.
 
Kevin’s true love is his car anyway.
