(A barefooted story about Rarity and Rainbow Dash as requested for my good friend Twi Clown)
It was a regular day in Ponyville with Rarity working hard at Canterlot Boutique finishing the last batch of orders for the day. Working the sewing machine for hours on end, she was starting to feel pretty tired from having to sit down and carefully watch the seam patterns flow down the almost completed dress. It was a very stressful job for her and she did it in a way that helped her relax and concentrate, doing it all without her shoes on. She liked to work in her workshop all in her barefeet as a way to help her feel more relaxed as she did her job while feeling the nice bristled carpet of her floor.
She just finished hanging up the last of her completed dress to the display mannequin as she heard a loud bang on her door: it was Rainbow Dash.
“Hey Rarity!” The athletic girl said, startling the poor fashionista.
“Rainbow Dash! Don’t ever interrupt me like that ever again! You almost gave me a heart attack!” She scolded back to her.
“Geez, sorry, but anyways how about me and you have a little race to shake off that stress of ya?”
“I’m sorry Rainbow Dash, but I simply have to decline your offer, can’t you see that I’m busy?” Rarity said.
Suddenly agitated, Dash looked around the room and saw the entire wall filled with completed dresses. “Oh come on! You’ve been stuck in here for hours! Clearly you need to take a break, and I’ve been soooooooo bored!”
The fashion designer thought about what she said for a few seconds. “Well I have been meaning to take a little break, and seeing as I can’t spend time with Sweetie Belle since she’s off with her friends, I don’t see what’s the harm in hanging out with you.”
The athlete smiled when she heard her friend accept her offer. “YES! A race it is! Meet you at the fired in a few!” And with that, she ran off in a flash out of the room. Rarity sighed and raised her eyes in amusement as she grabbed her small high heel shoes and out them on as she walked out the door.
Outside in the field, the two friends were getting ready to spend some time together.
“A race?” Rarity asked. “Why I haven’t done a race in a very long while.”
“That’s fine, all you do is just run as fast as you can to reach for the finish line.”
“I know what a race is, darling.” She said chuckling “but since you’re the fastest in Equestria, I think you’ll beat me every time.”
Rainbow took the compliment very well and couldn’t help but boast. “It’s true, I am the fastest in Equestria and nobody can beat me!” She noticed her friend smugly looking at her with her hands on her hips and blushed sheepishly. “But only for you, I’ll go easy and take it slow so it’ll be even between me and you.”
“Very well, it is a race that we shall do.” Both start to get ready until Rarity looks down at her feet and expresses concern. “Oh dear…”
Her friend notices her. “What is it?”
“It appears that I forgot to put on running shoes for this.”
“Just take those off and do the race barefooted, no big deal.”
“No big deal?” The posh girl said, sounding insulted. “I just had my feet manicured yesterday, I don’t want to get dirty or step on something icky.”
This caused Dash to facepalm and groan. “It’s not a big deal! I run around without my shoes on a lot to help me go faster and I haven’t gotten anything bad happen to me, now quit being dramatic and let’s race already.” As she was saying that, she herself taking off her shoes and socks and set them aside.
This led Rarity to really think, she didn’t want to disappoint her friend and make it feel like they wasted their time for nothing but she felt squeamish over the thought of having her soles touch the dirt and grass. Seeing her friend stomp her foot in the ground in impatience, she finally made up her mind. “Fine, you win, I’ll take off my shoes and race.”
“Finally!” Her friend said in relief. Slowly, Rarity began to slip her feet off her shoes and touched the grass and it felt weird to her. This wasn’t the first time that the so called lady went outside barefooted, but it was something that she didn’t like to do. She looked down at her now exposed feet with her purples colored toenails and wishes that she wasn’t doing this, but she must for her friend. She set them aside as both crouched down in the starting position. “Ready, seeeet, GO!!” With that, both girls were off.
Both friends were running across the field, their feet making loud stomping noises to the grass. Dash was feeling confident as she ran until she saw that her friend was starting to lag behind.
“HEY!” Rarity said. “I THOUGHT YOU SAID WERE GONNA TAKE IT EASY ON ME!”
Smiling sheepishly again, Rainbow apologized and lowered her speed, helping her friend catch up to her. The fashionista was into the race that she forgot about the fact that she was barefooted, and now with all the adrenaline rushing to her as the blood began to pump her legs, she felt less and less weirded out and more feeling good. With the long and quick strides she was taking, she felt the sudden sensation of grass hit her soles quickly one by one, and it was a feeling that she was beginning to like. It felt massaging to her as all her stress and worries about her previous work started going away. This actually feels really delightful she thought as she raced side by side with her friend. I can see why Dash approves of this, it feels really great!
Speaking of Rainbow Dash, she was already used to the feeling of her soles being in contact with the ground and grass to the point that she used it to her advantage when it comes to racing or just running in general. Depending on the circumstances, there are times where she doesn’t care that she’s barefooted and enjoys the feeling of it. Now seeing that her friend was getting into the zone, Dash decided to increase her speed a bit and get ahead of Rarity, which led to her noticing and mustering up her courage to catch up, which impressed Dash actually. With that, both friends competed against each other and kept on running with their barefeet giving them the step up needed to win.
To be continued…
(I think I’m gonna stop here for now. I probably might make a Part 2 of this if he wants it or if I decide to finish it myself)
