In November? Well, I didn’t draw anything that month since that was when classwork was really coming down hard, and I got a cold near the end.

Man, I’m always jelly of your clean lineart and good sense of shading. All of them look like they legit could be screencap of a cartoon.

So when I color and start shading in a cel shaded style, do I just colorize in a new layer while using a multiply filter?

That’s very flattering of you to say. I feel I still have a ways to go in shading/rendering, but I’m getting the hang of it. I think I did really well with Mooncake in March.

Usually when you’re shading digitally, you make a new layer above the flat colors. That’s your shading layer, and you switch your blending mode to Multiply for that.

Pretty much, yeah. Here’s a comparison.  

 
Left is Multiply mode, using only ONE COLOR to shade (here I used exactly halfway between pure white and pure black).  
Middle is also Multiply mode, but using the FLAT COLORS.  
Right is Normal mode, where you basically manually choose your shadow colors.

give or take two weeks of dedicated practice and you’ll get the hang of it. then one day you decide to orient the tablet a different way and you’re back to square one.

I was just gonna use this to make a comparison between shading styles, but I ended up coloring it and uploading.  

That moment when you flip your drawing horizontally and everything goes horribly wrong.

You a traditional pencil and ink guy? Much respect. I appreciate analog guys like that username 40kponyguy. Digital is pampering me and I’m developing bad habits that proves fatal when doing analog.

And it’s nice to see another traditional artist here.  
Whilst your own artwork seems to lean towards NSFW, you certainly have a clean style of drawing.  
Me? I have 3 kids, and my older two (10 and 8), often flip through my doodles so I need to behave. Not beyond the odd cheeky joke but I have to draw a line somewhere.

I generally don’t draw NSFW art that much really. It’s only when I’m really lewd.  
I’m currently living with some family so I hide my art book or just dont draw when I’m making a NSFW doodle
