Erotic vs. Figure (NSFW)

In recent weeks I been studying poses and practicing where I can. I also feel I took a nose dive into erotica when I should have had more self control. I openly admit that I desire to give more respect to my art then I have been. However, this begs the question. In Andrew Loomis “Figure Drawing For What Its Worth,” there is a sense of respect to each study, object, and person. I imagine translating this to pony and in general fury art things can get hairy. “Pun might not be intended.”

In retrospect my opinion is central to the point of “does this create implicit detail to arousel?” If it has the appearance of provocative then its erotic. If the pose seems like an every day life moment then its a human figure characteristic. Yet, I find there is a reasonable cross between the two where it might be provocative, but not with the soul purpose of explicit erotica.

I figured I would start a discussion on this simply because this is a fascinating area in art theory. More along the lines of ethics in art, but one that should be given some time to consider. Every artist in my oppinion should understand the underlying concept of anatomy and the biology of characters. Especially when its in representation of a human characteristics to a non-human thing. After all, expression should have some sort of substance to whats underneath.

Isn’t it relative to the viewer, though? Some people may see a particular pose/situation and think it’s hot, even if the artist didn’t planned it.

Erotic artists will just do what is required (carefully pick the adequate pose, exagerating things here and there, etc) to lead as much people as possible to feel what was intented

I find this an interesting take on it. Sort of fits my explanation for a cross between. Somewhere between the erotic and the fur covered figure there is this point your talking about. Yet, I can’t help, but think there is a reasonable line that seperates them. Elements such as penetration, ejeculation, and in some aspects even the pose can be erotic. Yet, again the pose can simply be the character stretching and just happened to be nude while doing so. Thanks for the ensight. It sort of helps elaborate on the cross between I mentioned.

porn and erotica in general work bc we, as species, have possibility to be arosed wia visual stimulation, like, mirroring neurons in our brain make us think that we are participating in sexual or erotical situation that happens on the pic we are looking at. so it is strongly related to our own sexual and romantical associations and experiences - that explains why different people may see sexual thing as non-sexual and vise-versa. on the other hand, non-human species with human-alike characteristics (emotions, thoughts, free will and etc.) are providing possibility for viewer to have the same “psychological” experience with feelings while “physically” distancing viewer, as human, from stuff that happens to the character.
i personally will not fap on irl gore or any form of violence, while grimdark stuff with drawn animals is okay for me to both draw and consume. i found this out while searching for references for some of my artworks, and that was kinda revelation for that time. would be interesting to read other explanations.
thats only my opinion based on personal experience, obviously, just wanted to share my point of view. sorry for grammatical and lexical mistakes in advance.
