Hashbrony, from the Hashbro site, was making unlicensed 3D prints of plastic ponies and earning profits.

Some people were outraged and calling Hasbro “Evil” for doing it. They’re starting Hasdrone arguments again.

I don’t know anymore about people.

Take solace in knowing as long as you go to sites that do things that would damage Hasbro’s reputation if they acknowledged it, you’re untouchable. Here, for example. Safe because acknowledging that we exist would mean acknowledging the approximately 10% of images that would ruin Hasbro’s reputation forever.

Oh, and calling people shills is just what those who ran out of ideas for an argument do.

Personally if I had to choose between people saying “hasdrones” and the opposite end of the spectrum of “you’re not allowed to dislike this” I’d rather have people running around calling others shills than people running around trying to banish me from the fandom for not liking the C&D.

My opinion on this recent drama is that Hasbro should hire the guy instead.

I suppose it’s cathartic for some people. It’s just that the issue isn’t as black/white as people see it.

The thing is that it would cost more to raise product quality and that cost would be carried on in product price. The target audience doesn’t care what color RD’s hair is or if AJ’s hat is missing, so why should Hasbro?

It’s sad for us but if these models were sold alongside a standard pony toy, the standard pony toy would win. We just want accuracy, the target audience wants a toy they can brush. Some of the 3D models were pretty fragile too, I’ve seen tons of them with broken legs and hair.

Plus from the perspective of the parent: Let’s say you could buy your kid either one single toy that isn’t even technically something a small child could handle for $30 or a huge brushable pony with accessories and still have money left over. It makes sense to buy the latter. I bought a Spike figurine from him and it was $35 for a tiny little print. You could buy an entire playset for that price.

I agree. That would be the smart move. Hasbro wouldn’t need to manufacture the physical models themselves or even pay anyone to do it for them. All they would have to do is sell the 3d model files along with a user license to use said files to create (either personally or via a 3rd party) physical copies of the models for personal use.

If Hasbro were still concerned about profit beyond that they could make arrangements with the companies who provide 3d printing services so that when buyers purchase a model their purchase is handled through the one of the licensed 3d printing companies who receive the portion of the money that they would normally receive for such a job and Hasbro takes the money covering the payment to Hasbro.
Cherry Berry

If Hasbro wanted to make better collector’s items, then they should hire him. But using the name “Hashbro” was a bad idea from the start, since it sounds way too similar to Hasbro. It wasn’t right for him to sell illegal 3D prints online and make his own profit off of it. Hasbro had every right to shut him down. He should’ve had a different name, and asked Hasbro’s permission to sell those 3D prints.
