My favorite part is where companies in the US try to retrofit and retcon characters or things the characters say and do to make it “ok” for the US-centric “Graphic violence is perfectly fine but never ever touch or show a boob!”
Like making a lesbian couple “cousins” - because for some reason incest is better for sensitive American audiences, or making a character who is IN CANON a hermaphrodite one and only one gender.
Because … why. Just why. Just let Haruka-san be non-binary. How could that POSSIBLY hurt the franchise or offend American audiences? She’s a freaking fictional character, the manifestation of celestial powers in a body that only coincidentally appears to be a human. How is it important to give THAT kind of being a specific gender? Just let her race cars and tease and date the other sailors. Why are American corporations so worried about what she has in her pants?
But, hey - at least I’m not bitter.
