Fanfiction thread

Just a general thread to talk about your favorite fics and why you like them.
 
A quick one that comes to my mind is Forever Faithful. Just love that horror-esque feel that it had and feeling of dread.

Best fic ever: Allegraza.  
It managed to get both myself and Psychopomf into shipping. Lovely dynamic between Octavia and Vinyl Scratch.

First Week of Winter on FIMfiction is really nice. It’s rated M because of grimdark, but there isn’t any profanity or sexual things, it could easily pass for a rated E story at first.
 
Anyway, you will have to go read the description on FIMFiction if you want to know more, it’s a weird one.

I think my favorite complete pony fanfic that I’ve read from beginning to end would be ““Naked Singularity[](http://www.fimfiction.net/story/13565/1/naked-singularity/naked-singularity) by Cold in Gardez. It’s not just funny, it’s–in my humble opinion–side-splittingly hilarious.
 
It does have sexual content, but it only happens in a story within the fanfic, if that’s any consolation to people.
 
Anyways, I’m always open to suggestions on what to read next! While I do prefer original flavor, adventure, and comedy over romance and excessive adult content, I find I’ll enjoy any work as long as it’s well written.

While I do like a well written story like “Anthropology”, “Crisis: Equestria”, or “On Cross and Arrow”, it is often the case that I find myself enjoying the terribad and trollfics most. Something about how ridiculously awful they can be always makes me smile and laugh, which is more than most emotion than most stories can conjure from me.
 
My favorite fanfiction of all time is the infamous “My Immortal” for the precise reason that it is so insanely atrocious that it is genius. I can honestly not recall any other moment in my life where I was consistently reduced to fits of splitting laughter so severe that I had trouble breathing, which more than redeems the story as “good” in my eyes.
 
After that my favorite fanfiction would be the “Half-Life: Full-Life Consequences” series. The comic appeal of that saga, particularly the cinematic Gmod adaptation, is well known and does not require further elaboration.

Well, “The Night That Never Ended” was the first (and still my favourite) fic. It hasn’t been updated in almost year though, which is a shame since it was nearing the climax. Being the first fic of its kind that I started reading 2 years ago, it hit me pretty hard back then.
 
As for other stories I’ve enjoyed:
 
The Party Never Ended - My first shipfic, which was surprisingly captivating, while the ending was unexpectedly steamy, since I wasn’t familiar with ButterscotchSundae’s past works.  
Pony Psychology Series - Dark romance, an even darker sequel, and the most badass Derpy interpretation ever. I was hooked.  
Arddun Lleuad - My first taste of “A human in Equestria”. I’ve read very few stories that are based around that happening, but this remains my favourite.  
Yours Truly - Feels. Feels everywhere.  
A Delicate Balance - My favourite ship. Very well written character interaction and a joy to read.  
Tabluna Rasa - It’s one of those fun stories that leave you feeling satisfied once you’ve finished. Pinkie’s chapter in particular was excellent.  
Alicorn - The sequel to Mommy Nearest (which wasn’t all that great), but it’s so engaging while going from a feel-good story that’s somewhat lighthearted, to dark and filled with disaster. An epic in the making, but it’s rarely ever updated.  
The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle - This is how Twixie is done right. With rafts of comedy, teasing between characters and other ships that develop during the story. I also keep telling Gravekeeper to get another chapter done, but he’s either busy working, talking to me and a bunch of friends or just can’t get in the groove.

I actually talk with CoffeeGrunt on an almost daily basis. I remember them saying just before they uploaded the first Allegrezza chapter that they weren’t taking it too seriously. Then its popularity unexpectedly exploded.
 
It’s certainly an enjoyable read though, which develops steadily while being fun throughout, but VST is my favourite VinylTavia fic. It’s simply hilarious and the character interaction is awesome.

I think I had “Naked Singularity” bookmarked a year ago. Never did read it in the end. :/

The Ponyfall series in general. I just love the kind of story where somebody find a humanized MLP character.

Um, yes, and I still post there daily. Fic discussions used to drive that thread, but it’s died down in the past year.
 
We still read over there, but rarely post about it now.

First, let me get the obvious one outta the way: Post-Nuptials. By far the best Post-Canterlot Wedding fanfic I’ve read. Every other fanfic where Twilight snaps at her friends or gets drunk off some dark mystical power during the wedding just didn’t click well like Post-Nuptials did.
 
And now the less obvious one: Bittersweet. Really saddening and I like that kind of fic where someone dies and it shows how everyone reacts differently… though Rarity deciding she’s gonna do her best Elric impression on Pinkie and try to revive her via some ritual that is sure to botch up just seems a little off… and then she gets captured by Diamond Dogs… again.

I lurked there for about a year, while i was reading allegrezza. i just found it funny that i randomly found the author on a completely different site.

The Life and Times of a Winning Pony. It’s funny and epic at the same time.  
Plus it has some of the best ponies in it. (Blossomforth, Cloud Kicker, Blossomforth, Derpy, did I mention Blossomforth?)

Errors in Continuity Is an MST crossover between Soul Eater and The Teen Titans animated series, In addition to some hilarious Riffing on bad fanfiction, it also boasts deep side chapters that deal with the lives of the cast and how the fics they read affect them,And the fan Favorite feature of allowing readers to submit fan mail to the cast, The author is pretty tolerant with this but will filter mail he deems to extreme,
 
The Fic initially stars Raven from the Titans and Crona from Soul Eater as well as the original character Subarashii, but the cast gets an occasional guest to mix things up,
 
In addition to the main series, it has 2 spin offs one for Soul Eater Fics and one for Teen Titans Fics,
 
The fic also boasts a small TvTropes page

MLD is the only ponyfic worth a read.

Gonna use this opportunity to add Heart of Gold, Feathers of Steel, “Summer Days” and “Evening Flames” to my ever-growing list of awesome Slice of Life fics. That story got me through many uneventful lunch breaks at work and is the defining Gilda-fic for me. Part of me wants to see Nicknack add some continuation in that universe, while the other half considers the last part of Evening Flames to be an acceptable - if open-ended - conclusion.
 
Speaking of Nicknack, I have to give the “Two Beats” rewrite a look sometime.
 

 
Oh, and The Empty Room wasn’t a bad read either. Kinda confusing at times especially when shit goes down later on. But for a fic that started more than 2 years ago, I was intrigued by the parallels with event in season 2 and 3 (Alicorn Princess Twilight especially). Character deaths hit pretty hard too, even when they play a huge role in the story.
 
Hell, I even took a liking to that nymphomaniac plucked from Celestia’s subconscious, Twilight Spark. Shipping her with AJ is acceptable too, and so is TrixieMac in this case (Trixie it Best Ghost BTW).

It probably shows, but I like the Babs Seed/Apple Bloom ship. Here’s two of my favorite fics with that shipping.
 
Hope Blooms, the shipping story that isn’t. Before we focus too much on the fact that I am in the one percent of people who prefer FFN’s MLP section over FiM (much more rewarding when you find something that’s good, maybe I’m a masochist), it’s one of those stories that you’re so sure you know how it’s going to end, and yet…it doesn’t. Mind you, it feels heavily implied even without being confirmed, but all the same, it’s a nice little friendship bonding fic.
 
Also, Pen Pals. Why? I don’t know. The plot is unrealistic, right down to the solution, (Silver Spoon sucking grown colt’s dick? Diamond Tiara coming out to her dad by basically saying “guess why my room smells of vagina”? The concept in the first place? And the entire heat scene, in the field and in the doctor’s office, made me damn uncomfortable) not even mentioning the cousins having accents in the letters and the spelling errors, but maybe it’s in the way the two main leads treat each other. It’s sweet, almost, the relationship they have. The porn isn’t half bad either.

So this came out of my sleep deprived mind.

Good Morning Equestria and Reformed Unicorn Group Podcast legitimately feel like actual Podcasts done by MLP characters and I’m all for it

Flurry Heart And The Original is a nice coming-of-age story for Flurry Heart that eventually leads up to a reveal that Equestria is a distant-future version of the Sinnoh region from Pokemon
