Possibly but not for the reason you might think. It could be that more and more toxic people are simply getitng internet access rather than those already having it getting worse.

Friendship, Art, and Magic (2017) - Celebrated Derpibooru's five year anniversary with friends.

People find really weird things to draw a line in the sand over, you don’t know what is going to be a hot button issue with someone until you discover it.

Its only my experience, but it pays to be nice to people. Otherwise you never know when you’ll run out of people to talk to.
Agent Luna

Of course. As long as people keep getting major-companies tech gadgets to buy, they’ll get worse. It’s an age where post-count, avatars, and random strangers opinions matter the most.

Sometimes I feel like bold, trashy talk seems more widespread although not new as a phenomenon. Not sure if that’s necessarily so but it seems that way at times. The alleged anonymity can enable someone to go from this

from their mobile device or keyboard. Imagine if that perceived anonymity didn’t exist though. Goodbye 99% of that.

Things are still garbage but things are better than they use to be.
I disagree. Things are much worse than they were 10 years ago.
Heh, I feel like it can only grow toxic and there is no going back.
This. Our only hope is to stop using the internet but seeing how it’s become required to do anything now, that probably isn’t an option anymore.

Oh, my bad, I misread what you wrote. But I feel like things are better in the sense that StickyDrama is inactive and things that were normalized before are getting addressed more on how problematic they were.

I feel like as time went on, some problems lessened while other problems grew. So it really is how you look at it and where you are looking at on the internet.

I don’t see any difference really for a variety of factors. There has been both good and bad periods throughout not just the Internet, but throughout history and that isn’t gonna change anytime soon and it depends on which way you look at it, there really is no objective answer. One can think that we’re better off than before, one can think that it’s gotten worse, one can think that we can strive for change, and one can think that there is no hope for change, it all varies from person to person. Whether you’re an optimist or a cynic or somewhere in the middle, there is no definitive answer on the true state of affairs like the Internet. That and there’s also where you are on the Internet because the World Wide Web isn’t just limited to social media platforms, there are constant blogs, news articles, forum posts, editorials, what have you who all have a range of opinions, and that’s not getting into the Dark Web.
All in all to answer OP’s question and give my philosophical stance on it, the Internet has gotten more mainstream than before, but I see its toxicity as more or less the same as before and will likely remain that way.

Also personal websites like the ones from Geocities, the fediverse, frontends like Invidious (a YouTube proxy). The old internet never died. It just faded into obscurity. I found this website not long before I joined Derpibooru.

Yeah there is a lot of shit on Tor and I don’t use it as much anymore because of that, but there’s also some good stuff on there. All of us should know CP isn’t just on the dark web, but on the clearnet too. I remember when that one guy who posted a lot of CP on this site months ago (fortunately I never saw it). Tor itself is good, but most of what’s on the dark web is shit.
