Yet another great musician lost this year. Hope it stops happening so quickly!

Finally finished with all my one hit wonder listens
Last one I listened to was White Town, and their other stuff was not that bad. I did like their early stuff when they were an actual band which sounded like a cross between The Pixies, The Smiths and Echo & The Bunnymen. Their later stuff when it was just Jyoti Mishra was alright for the most part. I also listened to one of his album tracks, “Excerpts From An Essay” which is just a text to speech voice reading a Marxist essay about hip hop about black Americans all set to a computerized beat which lasted for 13 whole minutes. I felt like I was strapped to a chair and being forced to listen and watch Communist propaganda like I was getting brainwashed.

I hadn’t heard of White Town before, but of the others you mentioned, I do dig Echo & The Bunnymen every now and then

I have fallen down a rabbit hole of anime OSTs that blatantly rip off popular songs.

That there is an issue, when it comes to songs, I never forget about them since I know so many from different genres

Them Bones by Alice in Chains comes to mind. I listened to it a lot many years ago then forgot about it since I was never really into grunge, maybe some songs by Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin (two bands I forgot about for a while), but most songs I stop listening to I’ve never truly forgotten.

It’s DragonForce’s Soldiers Of The Wasteland when I first heard it through a 300 MV on old skool 2000s YT.

Then several years later, I ran into their most popular song TTFAF through Guitar Hero and realized this song was oddly familiar to the one I first heard because it’s by them.
I searched manually until I found the title name of the first song and re-discovered it again.

“Sugar Mountain” by Neil Young. Specifically the “Live at Canterbury House 1968” version.
I first heard it in 2006 at the age of 15 and loved it, but because it was during a period of discovering so much more great 1960s and 1970s tunes as a teenager, that song got pushed into the back of my mind for years. That is, until I rediscovered it just this past year. Now it is quintessential nostalgia for me!

Edit: Funny thing is, there is a lyric in the song that goes “you can’t be 20 on Sugar Mountain”. Well, I was barely 16 when I first heard the song, and now I’m 31!
Oh well. I might not be able to “go to” Sugar Mountain anymore, but I can listen to it it! ;P

I’m hoping for Todd to do a TrainWreckords on Boston, maybe “Corporate America”. They’re definitely a band who destroyed their careers because of one album and tried to do the Genesis and Motley Crüe route of making an album that mixed both their classic sound and a more contemporary one.

IMO, Life, Love and Hope is a worse album than Corporate America. At least there was some kind of vision for the former. The latter ends on a cover of “O Canada,” for gods’ sake.

It kind of makes sense though, given Brad Delp’s French Canadian ancestry

True. Damn strange song to cover though, since they’re from Boston (and since IDK if Delp was alive when making that one).

They’re on my list of bands I eventually want to cover for Was It Really That Bad? It’s astounding to me how a band with such a strong debut that even its deep cuts are staples of classic rock radio could have such a big downfall.

According to my research, he did provide vocal tracks that were added to the album, which itself was released after his death. I wouldn’t know for sure if his vocals are on that O Canada song though

I’d like to see you tackle it since you know more about classic rock than Todd does, he’ll just use that as an excuse to crack jokes while you can actually analyze the album track by track.
