You’ve always seen in movies a guy, most likely the hero, picking up a rocket launcher in a room, firing at something outside, and moving on.
But… did you know that would be extremely dangerous and deadly?
Recoilles rifles and rocket launchers have a characteristic method of operation: they have venturi nozzles, this it’s basically the back of the rocket launcher. When the rocket starts or the shell gets fired, a part of the hot gases (and energy) gets propelled backwards to avoid and otherwise arm-breaking recoil. This is the backblast, the backblast area is a cone shaped area behind that rocket launcher or recoilless rifle, where the hot gases are expelled when the weapon is discharged.
Yes, in movies people fire rocket launchers inside a box, in real life, if you fire a recoilless rifle or a rocket launcher in an enclosed space it will create so much pressure that you have an high chance of being killed by it. Additionally, firing them with your back on a wall, tree or even the ground will result in the hot rocket exhaust being deflected back at you and severely burning or even outright killing you. Not to mention that anybody standing behind them will result in a grievious injury or death.
It should be noted that this does not apply on all weapons; some weapons use special “Soft Launch”, this can range from counterweight, smaller rocket to eject the rocket before the main motor ignites, or frangible materials. A good example of this is the Panzerfaust 3, which uses plastic chips to compensate recoil.

Will Smith was originally considered for the role of Neo for the Matrix movie franchise, but he rejected the role as, by his own admission he thought he was “too silly” to be the main lead for a serious action movie.

Funny facts about Germany
- On the first day of first grade, every child gets a giant cone filled with toys and candy
The Schultüte, a tradition that dates back to the 1800s, gives kids toys when they enter school to celebrate the “seriousness of life.” Going back to work after vacation would be a whole lot more bearable if employers were like Germany. These days, it’s not unlikely for kids to even get video games and a cell phone in their cones, too.
- Drinking alcohol in public is legal
Germany’s laws about boozing in general are seriously loose. In fact, by the age of 14, you can already crush beers or swig wine “in the company of a custodial person”. And that means like, mom or dad, not the janitor.
- The government can (and will) reject weird baby names
According to German law, a person’s gender must be obvious by first name. So the civil registration office, or Standesamt, can refuse names that don’t comply. Re-applying can be a costly process, so that’s why many parents go for traditional names like Michael and Maria.
- Prostitution is legal
Back in 2002, Germany declared the world’s oldest profession within the law, clearing the way for everything from department store-sized brothels to drive-thru sex boxes.
- Everything is closed on Sundays
Except church. And probably brothels, for that matter. But don’t expect to get errands or shopping done on Ruhetag, or “quiet day”. In fact, don’t think about home renovations, either – drilling on Sundays is also illegal.
- It’s bad luck to wish someone “Happy Birthday” in advance
There’s a saying that sums up the German mentality nicely – “Du sollst den Tag nicht vor dem Abend loben”, or “You shouldn’t praise the day before the night”. It means don’t be sure of something until it happens, because then it won’t happen. So wishing someone a happy birthday early could mean they won’t have one, or more precisely, that they’ll die.

The roots of rock music can be traced to blues, which got its roots from jazz, which got its roots through African-American gospel. That means you can’t say rock it’s evil or devil, because it’s roots come from God’s music!

There’s are aircraft that don’t fly but can still ‘float’, they’re called Ground Effect Vehicle or Ekranoplans, the reason being that they use the Ground effect to fly, unlike conventional aircraft that rely from a upwards suction by the effect of sustentation, the Ekranoplans use the overpressure that’s produced in front and under their wings, which generates a matress of air that guarantees sustentation. They can’t take too much altitude due to this, since rising would mean losing the Ground Effect and falling from the sky. But they’re capable of going speeds above and beyond 400 km/h carrying a whooping 544 tons. The first one was such a shock that the USA’s intelligence agencies called them “Caspian Sea Monsters”.
