Of course it would be better. That’s what I like to see from people who trace and post it as their own. Many probably just don’t know that it’s wrong. I had one guy who was very cool about it and understanding. It was a great experience!
 
But then you have other people, who you will find in my comment history, that are not so humble. What is the appropriate response to them? If they don’t care that they’re being dishonest, and they don’t care that people are angry that they’re being dishonest (in part because the moderation team culls comments on images, for reasons mentioned already), then what is the price they pay? Nothing? They get away with it, as long as they continue to be dishonest and cry loudly enough. What justice.

PMs are a thing, if you genuinely want to talk to somebody in a serious manner without public spectacle. Comments on an image being a trace are fine, up to the point it just kinda derails into a general thing and/or tensions get a bit too high.
 
And site search of “artist:blah, trace” does yield results of who’s known to have traced (like doggie…) and who’s a “victim” of tracing (like ambris).
 
 
This site isn’t meant to be the end-all-be-all of the fandom, where judgement is applied to the unworthy or whatever; it was just meant to be a place to archive pony-related art. The forums were created when we realized people wanted to talk about more than just the raw images, but even still, this site isn’t “the fandom”.

now, on punishment, it’s hard, because there are a lot of cases and things to consider, it’s not straight forward and mods are just people like us, they can’t act as judge and jury.  
For as much as i hate tracers, there can be different ways to go about it. Like a 10 years old tracing to feel cool is different from someone that does the same at 30 years old.  
It’s too much work and it would never be perceived as “fair”.
 
However it’s not even a problem to ignore. I don’t know toxic mario and how he is, but he gave me the impression of someone that doesn’t care about problems because he feels like he’s in a steel barrel and no one can hurt him, so he will probably end up doing this same mistake over and over, only tarnishing his reputation even further.
 
Like anyone that misbehaves he has to be called out on it, in hope he doesn’t do it anymore.

I’m more surprised no one noticed this sooner. TM reuses art and assets as much as he reuses jokes.

I have little faith in the power of PMs to sway people who are already being lazy and dishonest to begin with, but I can give that a try.
 
Though, regarding the “trace” tag, it can be removed by anyone. Is there a way to ensure that the tag can’t simply be removed (as Toxic-Mario has already tried to do on the relevant image)?

It can be removed, but like every other tag, it’s publicly audited.

Did you see Toxic-Mario’s recent Wereluna pic? It’s so bad as a pony I can’t believe he could draw any proper anthro at all. His ponies are just too bad.

Toxic keeps deleting the trace tag from the picture, even though it is a clear trace  
Dumb question, but is this allowed?

i admit that his artwork could use some… refinement. And yes, it was the warning flag that made me think that rariyoko was traced. It was too good compared to his skills.  
I’m not sure how he reacts to criticism, but he could improve a lot if he started searching for some anatomy books.
 
Tho, let’s not go off topic. The discussion is for his traced picture and especially his attitude regarding it.

there are a lot of drawings in that pose, but yes, so far we can assume it’s only referenced. Thank you for the time you spent on it. I don’t think right now controlling the other would bring fruitful results.
 
Still, his deleting tags and refusing to address the problem is the other main contention point. He hasn’t (for what we know) sold the traced image, so that’s ok. We cannot know that sadly, unless a potential buyer happens to stumble on this topic.  
I just hope he gets his shit together.
 
Also, the proof of the tracing will stay there, so it’s not like he’s going away scot-free.

I don’t think he wants to improve. Did you see what he wrote under his newest comic? That he will recycle his old jokes because he can. With that mindset he will continue tracing because he can.
