Thread Starter - The time wasting thread

I know a few people are a fan of it, but how many people on here play the games?
 
 
If you don’t know what touhou is it’s a game franchise that in bases is a lot like mlp in a lot of respects. Like gensokyo(where touhou is) and equestria could be next door neighbors and set in the same universe and we would never know.
 
If you do try the games first start out on easy mode. It’s not like most modern games where they just hand you a victory and then constantly give you achievements to make you feel good so you’ll keep playing; rather it’s for actual gamers who don’t need to constantly be patted on the back ego wise. It actually is difficult unlike how most modern games give fake difficulty levels and then claim they’re hard.
 
 
I only just recently got into the franchise and playing on hard mode. Yeah yeah, I know lunatic mode, but right now I just have catching up too do story wise.

Same thing drew me in. Also my initial introduction to it was the fan anime episodes currently being made. That would be pretty awesome if a professional studio like bones ever made a show based on it though.

I was really into touhou several years ago, That was a short while before i got into MLP.

The game, I’m afraid is beyond my level.
 
The only way to change that is to play the games. Perfect Cherry blossom isn’t to hard and is a great starting point.
 
Got to say that my favorite part of Touhou is the soundrack of the games and all the remixes based on it.
 
Speaking of remixes here are some famus ones:

Chirno’s Perfect Math Class based on Beloved Tomboyish Girl
 
I also love Nostalgic Blood of the East ~ Old World and Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke from the soundtrack of Touhou 8: Imperishable Night and maybe is sould stop before i Spam several dozen youtube links

There also used to a ton more amazing remixes and other Touhou arranges until YouTube banned several uploaders such as aghart101 and mimikkutan. BelisariaYagami and Acellutor don’t seem to be uploading anymore… Poltergeist Mansion disbanded quite some time ago. But their music is hosted on a couple channels of former members of the band of remixers, KakashiMr and moomar2.

Even with all this content gone youtube is still have Tons of touhou related content. And youtube isn’t even the main center of Touhou related works.
 
There is a torrent file out there of 1.2 terabyte of touhou inspired songs and remixes!

That moment I realize I’ve been stupid and overlooked that Yukari and Ran are a lesbian couple in canon.

Yea, anyone who’s talked to me knows I’ve been known to sneak some Touhou to see if they get it.  
I found it by stumbling across “Tsurupettan”. After having that song in my head for several days non-stop(Great, it’s back in my head again), I searched where it was from and the rest is history.
 
I eventually got into the games as well, and have played all of the Windows games save for Double Dealing Characters or the Aya games. I am decent at Hard mode but unfortunately I have never 1cc’d any of the games besides Imperishable night(with all characters save for MAlice).  
Never finished any EXTRA stages.
 
I’d say my favourite to play has got to be Subterranean Animism, most likely because I like the characters from it.
 
But what keeps the most in the Fandom is the music.  
MY GOD! As a musician with open tastes, it is a smorgasbord of songs of literally every genre. I could gush for hours about how amazing the original tracks are and how some people can twist them into such amazing ways and that Sturgeons almost doesn’t apply to this utterly insane fandom, but by the end, my fingers would be arthritic from typing.

I’ve listened to quite a bit of Touhou music in the past. A lot man. Yet, there seems to an endless amount of them, it’s like trying to watch all the cat videos on the internet, impossible.
That is what happens when you have a ton of characters each with their own respective musical note. Sadly, a lot of great YouTube uploaders got banned… RIP Mimikkutan, aghart101, Touhoufantasia, and Spiritoftouhou, you will all be missed. BelisariaYagami and Chaosangel209’s(formerly Chaosangel092) channels seem to be still on YouTube, but don’t seem to upload anymore. And the Poltergeist Mansion disbanded a long time ago. I’m also quite surprised Diremagic is still not banned, but is inactive since a long time ago.

Interview with Ran. She made mention about how she gets beaten by Yukari a lot and as her shikigami, she has to take it without complaint.
 
A bit of a stretch but fandom has taken stuff farther before.

Trying to keep on top of all the music, A Sisyphian task if anything.  
I’ve never really used channels to find touhou music. I tend to just search for individual videos and save them in my bookmarks if I like it. Still a damn shame to lose such good purveyors of Touhou music for those who can’t work out how Nicodouga works.
 
I really love how Zun can create unique leitmotifs for his literally hundreds of different characters.  
I love when a memorable song or riff can be connected to a character or moment and I have made clear in the past I am rather tired of the epic but unmemorable orchestration used in media nowadays. I suppose Zun used up all the memorable music.
 
Also, I have to admit with no shame that the second biggest reason I love the series is the catchy fan videos that get created. Often cute, stuffed to the gills with references, spawnpoint of one of the millions of memes in the fandom and often including the characters singing really catchy songs. It’s gotten to the point that I can tell which artist created the PV at first glance. In fact, I think I’m gonna binge on some IOSYS now.

Also, has Anyone here tried the eXceed series? I’d recommend it (except the first one) if anyone here is looking for a good Touhou alternative.

If you have Steam, they’re being sold in the store there. eXceed Gun Bullet Children (the first one I recommended skipping) isn’t that good, but I’d recommend getting the bundle “eXceed Complete Pack” since it’s cheaper than just buying just the last two games individually, then you technically get GBC for free.

Oh and also, here’s something that may be interesting to some of you. In the third game, there’s actually a character with big white wings named Celestia (she’s supposed to be a dragon though, not a hoers)
