I decided to redo another old profile again, this time in celebration of Kingdom Hearts coming to Steam.
I had a lot of fun going over and rewriting most of this, and I might do the other one tomorrow.
Until then, I hope you all have a wonderful day/week.
One of the few among a group of Alchemists living in an area commonly referred to as the ‘Bleaklands- a dreary, often dismal swamp-like wasteland biome near the westernmost border of Gal-Garth, Laska is known to many of its visitors and more permanent residents as a bit of an oddity. The younger sister of Kalta, she is considered by some to be the more enigmatic of the two, an idea that is further exemplified by the primrose-gold headwear that she is almost always seen wearing.
The attire in question was crafted by a number of Gal-Garth’s mages to contain the souls linked with hers. The one to her left is Nita; the Iudex of the soul, while the one on the right is Fina, the Iudex of the heart. Laska’s development was a complicated one, even from the start, having been born with their souls seemingly fused with hers, and has been able to internally communicate with both of them for nearly just as long. Because of her by-now signature headwear Laska is equipped with, both of her would-be sisters can openly and freely communicate with her and those around her as if they were separate, independent entities, both having been likewise given their own unique spells as a means to help further prevent Laska from coming to harm.
To begin with, Fina has a sort of precognitive ability that is able to internally calculate the trajectory and speed of a moving object within a certain radius, as well as a number of lie-detecting spells. She is also capable of reading a person’s intent or disposition, by way of eye contact and a faint, barely-traceable appraisal spell that allows her to peer into their heart and make judgements to better ensure Laska’s safety, if need be.
Nita, meanwhile, possesses teleportation-like abilities, and can alter the current location of either Laska, or anything moving to harm the three of them, or any of the ranged weapons she has, such as the throwing knives she is often known to wield when hunting.
Her auxiliary ability bequeaths her with a basic summation of a person’s subconscious, in a vein similar to that of Fina, with similar reasons for its usage whenever Laska is around someone relatively new or unknown.
Laska herself can also ‘reach out’, for lack of better wording, and deepen her connection with her sisters, becoming openly capable of temporarily using their abilities as if they were her own, if only for a short while. As a result of this, her natural agility, senses, reflexes, Mana output and reserves have all risen to astronomical heights the last few decades, their bond further strengthening all throughout.
Nita and Fina can also retreat into Laska herself when the need arises, giving her the capacity to remove her trademark headgear and the collar resting on her shoulders. Once this is done, the both of them will likewise be given the freedom to rest within her heart and soul, respectively, subsequently causing the amount of thaumic energy her body passively absorbs from the surrounding vicinity to very nearly triple due to their combined need to recover from however much Mana they have each expended while carrying out their duties as her guardian figures.
The final ability they each share, assuming they are well enough in-sync, is to allow Laska to view the supposed ‘memories’ of an item she happens to be in physical contact with, granting her a kind of psychometric ability that lasts for anything up to an hour or-so. The basis for this ability is speculated to be an extension or an offshoot of the world-renowned belief that, when an object is used properly and cared for long enough, it gains a ‘soul’ of a sort, and can bestow greater abilities to its wielder, according with its prior intended use and the methods thereof.
Laska herself is usually thought of as being somewhat reserved, with a few even calling her outright introverted, especially when she is interacting, or trying to interact with anyone other than Kalta and her other two, seemingly eternally-bound companions, who she often refers to as her older sisters, in a feeling they have both stated to be equally mutual.
Along with her usual demeanour, the most notable trait Laska has, according to those who are perhaps the closest to her, family notwithstanding, is her kindness to just about everyone she comes across- always willing to lend a hand, (or four, as she is known to sometimes joke with a faint grin), or an ear to whoever might need it, provided neither Fina Nor Nita find anything that might cause friction, conflict or harm between them, or to her and Kalta.
Thus far, her friendly, at times gregarious demeanour has earned her the friendship and sometimes even loyalty of a large swathe of the Bleaklands sentient fauna, as well as a fair number of its more permanent residents, and helped her ‘slowly come out of her shell’ as Kalta put it, helping her continue growing and developing as she continues with her work.
Although both she and Kalta are among some of the most highly knowledgeable when it comes to most anything alchemy-related, be it the ingredients, reagents and the best location and moment to find and harvest them, to the sometimes lengthy process of making various concoctions or tonics, Laska can just as frequently be found asking her ‘sisters’ for information or advice on various topics, and they, in-turn, are more than happy to assist her to the utmost of their combined ability, provided she keeps herself safe enough to return home unscathed.
The people Laska is most commonly found openly conversing with are the other residents in the Bleaklands, and the numerous merchants who pass through the slightly stodgy, if at times dimly-lit swamp-like area she and the others reside in- at which times she has often been noticed trading or bartering for any supplies she or Kalta might need, as well as anything she that herself finds to be curious or takes an interest in, thanks largely in part due to her nigh-immeasurable passion and desire to learn and her naturally-inquisitive mind.
Having started quite a long while long, measuring in at least the centuries, her steadily-growing collection of items, trinkets, odds-and-ends has grown spectacularly, now filling a sizeable number of chests and drawers- each neatly organized and sorted into their various compartments, with everything within them being sorted by category or the attributes they have.
Due to her inseparable connection with her siblings, be it visible or otherwise, has long-since earned her the well-intended moniker of ‘the Alchemical Cerberus’, a title which she frequently hears or mentions with an admittedly cute, if nearly blinding smile. Laska originally heard about the entity from a few of the merchants she has traded with, and has since begun to look up to their nature as a means of inspiration to further her own development, especially in regards to her reserved, slightly guarded demeanour.
Lastly, though she doesn’t mention it often, and has reportedly only told Fina, Nita and Kalta about it, Laska has always dreamt of being able to venture out of the Bleaklands and start exploring the rest of Ingracia, eventually returning home safely with a world of different experiences, memories and trinkets to add to her keepsake boxes, and with plenty of stories to pass onto each of the Bleaklands residents, and their potential next of kin.
However, she has been known to sometimes avoid mentioning it for fear that she will be met with scorn and disdain, or that Kalta may openly or even vehemently forbid her from Stepping foot outside their shared home. As to whether or not she will acquire the courage necessary to be more forthright on the matter, only time will tell.
Can I help you…?~
The part about items gaining souls after being used and treated well for long enough is a direct reference to Gachiakuta, which has some of the best art, action and writing I’ve seen in a Shounen series, these past few years.
Fina and Nita’s telepathic abilities make the second reference, being made based on the idea of Koishi and Satori’s abilities to read one’s mind and subconscious, respectively.
Laska’s physical contact-based psychometry is another rererence in itself, specifically to Helryx’s namesake mask power from Gen 1 Bionicle.
I’m tempted to call Fina and Nita’s ability to retreat into Laska’s heart and mind a reference to Kingdom Hearts itself, more specifically the part where Ventus resides in Sora’s heart to slowly mend his own (at least that’s as best I can remember it), but I’m not sure whether it’s accurate enough.

Here’s second of two profiles I promised yesterday, this one having gone from a word-count of 450-ish all the way up to 1425.
It’s starting to really heat up here in Wareham, and I’ve had to keep the door and windows constantly open to prevent my room essentially slowly turning into an oven.
Aside from that, I had a lot of fun going over and rewriting this, and I hope you all have a wonderful day.
One of the Bleaklands other permanent residents, and by far one of its best mages and alchemists, Kalta is the other half of her and Laska’s two-member party, and is said to be the less enigmatic, far more outgoing of the two. While Laska can be somewhat reserved or introverted, Kalta is far more playful, adventurous , eager to explore and find new things in and around the wasteland-like biome they both call home.
Having lived with Laska for the last few thousand years, Kalta is the more capable of the two, when it comes to remembering how the Bleaklands came to be the way it is in the current era. When the Awakening of the World occurred, the former Kingdom of Uk’Thael was one of its direst epicentres, being home to a multitude of the so-called world-quakes, that ravaged the land and levelled a number of its major towns and cities.
As with Pelagia, Kalta’s physiology and Mana was merged with the nearby Fauna, in her case being a young Vine Dragon and a few Deep Weaver hatchlings- torso-sized arachnids which make their homes relatively close to the heart of the Bleaklands, and are known for spinning threads which are packed with incredibly dense, versatile thaumic energy.
Waking up to find that her body had been irreparably changed, Kalta’s immediate concern was Laska’s wellbeing, rushing home to find that she had been changed into a hybrid between a small litter of Skull Pythons and a Swamphound.
Finding the bottom half of their shared home empty, if utterly ruined, Kalta turned and hurried upstairs, only to find her little sister sat in bed, looking at her newly-changed physique in abject horror, instantly recognizing her from her signature headwear that had fortunately remained unscathed.
Slowly approaching, she stopped dead in her tracks when Laska looked up and found Kalta stood in front of her, feeling her heart sink into the pit of her stomach when she rapidly backed up against the far wall in unadulterated fear, the next several hours being spent reconciling and reconnecting, slowly becoming acclimated to the changes that had occurred to their appearances, Mana reserves and output.
After gradually piecing their home back together, Kalta found that her and Laska’s senses had likewise changed, now clearer and sharper, and soon after putting together enough supplies, began practising with them by exploring their vastly-altered homeland, mapping it out little-by-little and detailing whatever landmarks they found on the way, be it an artefact, or a location like a ruined village, or one of the many facilities one would expect to find, such as a blacksmith, a guild-house, or even sometimes a jeweller’s store.
After mapping out enough of the area surrounding their home, they both came to the realization that much of Uk’Thael had likely been changed in a similar manner- from a bustling kingdom, once referred to as the third heart of the world, now a dreary, bleak, almost desolate wasteland inhabited by creatures they later found out were referred to by mane as Gremir or ‘Shapeless Devils’, many of whom seemed to be various species of fauna, sometimes even humans, that had been corrupted by the primal Mana that had been unleashed during the numerous, tumultuous world-quakes.
After it had had sunk in, Laska and Kalta began constructing a beacon, with a bit of help from Nita and Fina, crafting it in such a way to avoid any unwanted attention from the fore mentioned Shapeless Devils, and instead earn the curiosity of any merchants, explorers or knights that happened to be close enough.
Upon finally making contact with a party of explorers, led by a small platoon of Gal-Garthian Knights, Kalta stood between them and Laska while conversing, detailing everything they had both learnt of their newly-changed home, and making copies of the maps she and Laska had made with the knights and explorers, in exchange for new trade routes near their home to allow them to trade or barter anything they found with many of Ingracia’s Merchants.
Since their fourth meeting, Laska and Kalta’s home had been given official designation by Gal-garth’s King, giving it the protection of his kingdom’s mercenary guilds and and a few especially-trained platoons of its royal military. Likewise, Gal-Garthian explorers, Knights and mercenaries have since found dozens more survivors of the world-quakes, helping them construct new pathways through the Bleaklands as a way to help them reconnect and interact, while being careful to avoid most of the far more dangerous creatures who also now call it home.
Having found a highly-accomplished blacksmith soon afterwards, Kalta was rather quick to commission a set of weapons and armour for both her and Laska, a pair of distinct rapiers for herself, and a set of ornate throwing knives for Laska, after she asked for both them and a midnight blue-silver crossbow with Jade-tipped bolts.
Since then, she has also found a number of abilities of her own, alongside Laska’s more telepathic ones, most notable of which is her ability to create and spin thread of incredible potency in regards to its Mana output and density. With it, Kalta is able to use a kind of thaumaturgy, not unlike Soulweaver Magic, spinning the thread she makes into tangible, albeit somewhat fleeting objects to help with her and Laska’s work, or when out hunting for food, or helping keep the Number of Gremir to a manageable level, so as not to let their home become overrun by them.
Conversely, she has also taken a piece of leftover timber from one of her personal projects and carved an instrument out of it, winding lengths of thread into spirals and using them to properly string it and create an oddly-shaped lute, often using it to gently lull Laska to sleep whenever she has a nightmare, and constantly practising with it, besides.
Kalta’s skills in alchemy are more to do with poisons, whereas her younger sister’s specialities are more geared toward damage-reversing tonics, salves and other healing items. The two can often be seen mixing and making various concoctions and tonics in their respective workshops adjacent to one-another, with a window in the wall connecting them both, as to better allow them to converse or share and trade reagents if such a need happens to arise.
She also frequently trades with the different merchants that pass through their home while they venture either to or from Gal-Garth, or the Kingdom of Caledfwich to the north- their home sat virtually right on the halfway point on what is considered by many to be one of, if not the safest route to either of the countries in question, and Kalta often barters for a few extra things to try and keep Laska as happy as she is able, much to her sibling’s usual glee and ecstatic smile.
Unbeknownst to Laska, Kalta has been somewhat aware of her sister’s desire to venture out and begin exploring the rest of the world at large, in all of its supposed glory, and though the Gremir, their presence on Ingracia and the potential threat they may pose have caused her no shortage of worry, Kalta is confident enough in Laska’s ability to take care of herself, her sharp wit and mind, and her resourcefulness in order to achieve the task she is currently undertaking that she will be able to eventually return safely and relatively unscathed.
Her main cause for concern, aside from the above, is usually to do with Laska’s possible naivety regarding Ingracia as a whole, and its numerous moving parts, systems, laws, mechanics, and how any of them might have changed, ever since the Awakening of the World- always worrying or concerned about her ability to fit in with the rest of Ingracia, now that it has changed so drastically.
Some of her concerns have been gradually assuaged, however, upon seeing Laska’s constant interactions with the numerous vendors, merchants and travellers who are either making their way along the previously mentioned trade routs, or visiting the Bleaklands to explore its at-times treacherous environment, and record their findings for others to learn from and possibly follow in their footsteps.
Subsequently , Kalta has been waiting, along with Nita and Fina, and will continue to be until they each believe Laska has grown and gained more confidence- both in herself and her ability to interact with those around her,a side form her family, and often requests that both Fina and Nita keep an extra eye (or four) on her as much as possible, to help monitor her personal growth.
I see you~
Not many references this time around, aside from the Soulweaver Magic being a reference to an old and admittedly not very good Artix Entertainment browser game, and the spiders mentioned are a reference to the Nyx-weavers from Magic the Gathering’s namesake set ‘Journey into Nyx’.
