…is just me, or did Sticks kinda steal part of Knuckles’ character? In the classic series, it was Knux who was the last of a lost tribe that lived in isolation guarding an ancient relic, and thus appeared more “primitve” and somewhat paranoid (and ironically easy to manipulate because of it). From what I can tell, Sonic Boom pretty much reduces Knuckles to a musclehead and Sticks gets pulled out of a jungle and becomes the butt of (semi-topical?) conspiracy theory/prepper jokes.

…seriously, why is Sticks so paranoid? At least Knuckles was actually guarding something, so what’s Sticks’ excuse?
archestereo

…okay, I know I might be dredging up a dead horse here, I only saw these videos yesterday, and I think they deserve attention because I think they offer the best perspective on the game in question; the reviewer even outlines the diffences between all THREE versions (I didn’t even know there was a PC version) and digs into some details behind development.

…however, I’ve come to realize that something has consistently bothered me whenever people talk about this game; I think the problem with the perspective/platforming has been overblown. Make no mistake, I know the problem is there, but I swear people talk like they’ve forgotten the sprites have their own shadows. If your shadow is over a platform, then you’re gonna land on that platform. If a badnik’s shadow is over you, then you’ll hit it when you jump. If you’re having trouble trying to determine the altitude of the Spring Stadium boss, SEE HOW CLOSE IT IS TO IT’S OWN SHADOW. I know I may be one of the few people who doesn’t mind an isometric perspective, but for goodness sake, USE YOUR BRAIN BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN!

In fact, this is semi-related to something else that irks me; it’s a gratuitously obvious fact that, graphically, despite the name, Sonic 3D Blast isn’t legitimately 3D, but I don’t undertstand how people can say that the gameplay isn’t legitimately 3D. If the gameplay is 2D, then how can you explain Sonic running in 8 directions and jumping out of plane when in previous games he could only run in 2 directions and jump within the plane? They even had to break the one-button rule and use a second for the spindash like in the Adventure games! No, seriously, could somebody please explain to me how the gameplay can still be considered 2D?

…also, does Traveller’s Tales have a thing about collecting stuff in fives? I mean, you could loosely construe Blast to be a “collect-o-thon” where you collect a set of five flickies at a time, and then last night , although I’ve only completed Andy’s Room so far, I started playing Toy Story 2 and noticed there seems to only be 5 tokens per area as opposed to, say, 8 stars (technically 9) per area in SM64. I dunno, that just seems kinda curious.

So I got a Wii U recently, and I’m actually considering getting Sonic Lost World. I’ve heard that it’s better than the 3DS version (basically the opposite of Sonic Boom)…

Also, I just starting replaying Sonic Adventure 1. Still quite a blast, though it definitely has some issues (and it infuriates me to no end that the PS3 release, the one I’m playing, didn’t bother to upscale the aspect ratio to 16:9 and has those ugly purple bars on the sides of the screen).

Also, EHAN, I totally agree with you about Sonic Heroes being the best 3D Sonic game, and I also totally want a sequel to it.

From what I hear about Sonic Lost World, the game is pretty good except for the level design. Play the Wii U version though, the 3DS version isn’t that great.

Also, did you know that apparently Perfect Chaos’s design seen in Sonic Generations was what the creators always wanted him to look like, but technical limitations of the Dreamcast prevented them from doing so? Kind of ironic, given that the whole reason for Chaos’s existence was to make a boss that would not have been possible on pre-Dreamcast systems.

…is it just me, or is it kinda telling which characters carried over to Sonic Boom?

As far as I know, so far the only characters that have appeared are:

-Sonic
-Tails
-Knuckles
-Amy
-Eggman
-Metal Sonic
-Shadow
-Orbot
-Cubot
-It kinda bothers me that there’s no #10 to list

…and then aside from one shots and background characters, Sticks is the only new addition (though I still think she stole Knuckles’ character). Sure, it it may still be more than what some of Sonic’s games have had, but roughly roughly half of them were to be expected anyways, which is sorta my point, but there’s more to it.

…like how all the hate that Shadow and Amy have gotten over the years would make it seem like they were the worst possible choices for inclusion (on the one hand I like the dynamic between Sonic and Amy better in Boom, but on the other I’m disappointed that Shadow is just sorta there) unless they get just as much or even more love, whereas the likes of Rouge, Silver and the Chaotic are left on the wayside (but then I’m still convinced that Shadow may just be a recycled, modified Mighty). Evidently, SEGA must think these are the core of the franchise.

…except for Orbot and Cubot, who are here because they were introduced in Sonic’s big comeback, and I’m pretty sure they were only there to bring yet another tradition to the games that’ve carried over to other media ever since AoStH’s Scratch and Grounder (Sonic Underground had those bounty hunters and Sonic X had those generic robot pair that were just sorta present).

…that and I think “Orbot” might be a subtle reference to Vectorman; also, I think those two are the only ones to carry over entirely untouched.

Here’s something I don’t get about Sonic Adventure 1: When Sonic and Knuckles have their boss fights against Chaos 4, Chaos 4 has 5 hit points. But when Tails fights Chaos 4, it only has 4 hit points.

…somehow I’ve never even noticed this; was this in the original DC version or in the DC port? (It’s possibly for the same reason he was the only one who didn’t have a hyper for in S3&K.)

It’s in every version.

@EHAN

That would explain why his final boss in Adventure 1, Egg Walker, is ridiculously easy (especially compared to freaking Egg Viper, which shares the same music).

@Solitude

…I thought he’d always been Silver Sonic stateside (like how Eggman became Robotnik)?

Of course, obviously, you couldn’t call the version in S3&K “Silver” Sonic, especially since it looks completely different and it would just make more since to give each a unique name since there’s already one with the distinction of “Metal” Sonic (and who’d constantly get confused with “Mecha” Sonic all the time in earlier days).

…I actually wouldn’t mind an Ape Escape/Million Monkeys type of game where Sonic has to chase down his own cybernetic dopplegangers (obviously Metal Sonic would play the roll of Spectre (A.K.A. Ceaser(I shouldn’t have to say this, but to avoid confusion, that was a joke in which I referenced the Planet of the Apes lore(Parenthetical Referenception)))).

Yeah Silver Sonic is probably my favorite of the sonic robots. He’s the most robust and tough looking, most mechanical. Not unlike mechagodzilla to godzilla :D

@Jarkes

It helps to know that the race is a total farce; it’s really just an obstacle course, and Metal Sonic himself is just one of the obstacles you need to avoid (rather than an opponent you need to Outrun), maintaining a rhythmic pattern throughout the course that’s easy to exploit.

@Sono

I always liked Mecha Sonic from S3&K myself (I think he looks the most menacing, he’s the only one Robotic entrusted with the Egg-o-matic (during the fight with Sonic), and he’s the only one to go super (using the Master Emerald, no less, during his fight with Knuckles, and before anybody calls me out for it, Knuckes’ Chaotic doesn’t count because it isn’t really can onto anything (probably because SEGA either forgot it exists or refuses to acknowledge the existence of the 32X) and Metal Sonic didn’t actually go super in Sonic Heroes (he was LITERALLY made of scrap, for crying out loud)).
