Uhh… practically every animal in existence tries to fuck whatever’s around them that’s capable of reproduction. The second a dog or whatever starts menstruating, bam, male dogs are gonna try and fuck it. The difference, of course, is humans have more complex brains that aren’t even halfway developed by the time their reproductive organs are.
 
Anyway, the “what is it” is simply power. If you have a proclivity and you have power, you can get away with it. Doesn’t matter if people “know”, you have power (ie. money and contacts) to bury it or muddy it behind “allegations”, and “settled out of court”.

They were always bad. Power doesn’t corrupt, corrupt people that achieve power just express their true selves through it. The majority of people with “power” aren’t corrupt, and they aren’t “paragons” or whatever the hell, they’re just not shitty people.

With all that being said, I’ll say like 60% of the people involved with Epstein probably didn’t fuck kids, but they knew he did and either turned a blind eye or used it to further their goals

It isn’t, though. If a lawyer believes their client is guilty it’s their obligation to state as much and recuse themselves. Of course, for these sorts of lawyers that’s an absurd proposition; they make shitloads of money from the PR or representing high profile clients, and from getting paid to show on TV.

We are witnessing one of the greatest threats to democracy, one that is almost unique to it.
 
If someone seizes power by force, the people will rebel. If an outside power attempt to overthrow the internal system, again the power fight back. These are dangers too be sure, but they are not the chief danger of the democratic system.
 
The worst threat is the willful and citizen supported concentration of power. This slow, gradual process allows for the desensitization of the citizenry to what should be contemptible moves by the power-brokers. They “get used” to deadlock, power grabs, and criminal behavior. It becomes normal to them, and they willfully cede more power to those willing to say the things they like.
 
As awful as the prequels were, one line from those borefests is worth remembering. “This is how democracy dies, to thunderous applause”.

Apparently Republican senators have been having closed doors meetings to conspire on how to proceed with the sham trial.
 
Supposedly though Moscow Mitch has been in a sweaty desperation to get all his mooks to play ball he ostensibly doesn’t have enough votes to outright block witnesses right now. There is a near-zero chance at least 20 Reps will suddenly achieve a newfound appreciation for the Constitution, America, Democracy, or basic decency, but all that’s needed to allow witnesses is for 4 Reps to pretend they care about their duty.
 
Assuming of course no Dems don’t screw up. Itself a long shot on it’s own.
