The Quarantine Thread

So, I’m not sure if this thread would be considered redundant to The Virus Outbreak Thread. But I had the idea of making a separate thread for people who are under quarantine, lockdown, or have to observe stay at home/shelter in place orders to discuss what they’re doing to pass the time.

I’ll start off. For me, one the things I’ve been doing to is trying to catch up on a backlog of books I’ve been wanting to read, but was always putting it off. Currently reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlen.

Right now I’m working my way back through the Red Thunder trilogy by John Varley, and I was going to keep working through the Expanse series, but of course the freaking library has the book but I can’t pick it up now. So I’m going through my own personal library again.
 
I’ve also discovered that cleaning the house can be fun … if you have nothing else to do … and a lot of alcohol.

Household maintenance is one of those things I was always putting off…and even now, I’m still putting off. :) But at least now I have less of an excuse.
 
Another thing is I’m having to do more of is cooking at home - not anything particularly exciting, and I can still go get take-out/drive thru if I want, but I am trying to limit the amount of time I spend outside of home.

I live far enough in the middle of monkeybutt nowhere that there’s no takeout here, so I’ve had a chance to experiment with dehydrating fish and beef, and have been making big 3 gallon pots of soup and lots of bread and noodles.

I live in a suburban area with my parents and sibs, though it seems that my mother can still get groceries.

I bought several frozen and canned items when this all started, so I’ve been enjoying beans and fajitas with rice several times for the past week. Tomorrow I’ll make my weekly trip to the store to get a few items so I can attempt to make beef and black bean chili.

I haven’t been to a market in I think 3 weeks now.

The only way in which I’m not off the grid is that I have a power line and a fiber optic cable running up my driveway. Other than that, if I want something I go and get it, or I pay someone to bring it.
 
It’s pretty nice.
 
When I first moved here, the nearest house was a full mile away. I’ve got some neighbors now, but I can’t see them through the trees, so we have lots of privacy.

That sounds nice :) It’s good that you can still get groceries, and you’ve got people nearby in case you need help with something.

We just tapped our frozen goods today. Ran out of ready to eat Guerrero tortillas de harina caseras and had to break open the big freezer so we could make more quesadillas tonight.
 
Not the first time I worried about how long this thing is going to last. I don’t want to live in a world where I can’t get fresh flatbreads.

Was talking to LB about that. Where I live it’s the complete opposite which is awful. Especially during this lockdown since all I want to do is leave.

I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like to live in a large community right now.
 
Or, like someplace like Tokyo. I lived there for awhile, and right now if I was stuck there in that tiny little one room apartment day after day I’d be suicidal or manic or both.
 
When I was there it was fine because I basically just slept in that apartment and went out for everything. But if I was stuck there? Oh my god.

I’m living it. Right now. Suffering. This is the view from my “porch” and that’s not even my yard down there but the neighbor’s.  
I drown myself in video games now just to escape..

Prison. Good word for it. I liked my old house and yard better for semi-obvious reasons. The feeling of loss is heavy.
