Well there is colors of magic or at least I can see colors every ones horn has a different color elemental magic is pretty easy to pick out. But the color doesn’t mean good or bad. Yea some colors might be seen as black or dark but well that doesnt mean its bad. And with out it we wouldn’t have baking. That’s real wich craft if you ask me.

Sometimes I wish the internet never existed, or at least technology stopped advancing 20 years ago (or before whenever Facebook or the iPhone became a thing). Society would have been better off without “smart” phones or social media.

I disagree. Since while some issues would be avoided. We’d find some other way to do it. And it could be worse. And even if we never had technology like we do. We’d always find a way to mess things up. Not to mention the amount of people who likely NEVER would have met in the process.

Maybe but the worst thing about all this is that it’s increasingly difficult to avoid the internet and big tech nowadays. They introduce something new that’s convenient yet invasive at the same time, then once enough people move to it, they force it on the rest of us. I wish the internet could go back to the early days (when the internet was a simpler place, people actually had their own personal websites that they owned instead of social media, and most things were still done offline) but with today’s speeds, ad blocking, and privacy features (HTTPS, Tor/VPNs, etc.). At least back then people weren’t complete slaves to social media and big tech.

As nice as it was to meet all of you, I think I would have been better off making real friends instead of disposable internet “friends” (really just glorified strangers, sad but true). If I never joined Derpibooru, I could have been better off, but more likely, I’d be wasting my time somewhere else, probably for the worse.

Hey! Having internet friends is not a synonym for not knowing any irl.
I feel cherished I get to know many people from the globe and even if they’re behind a screen, sharing the same energy or tastes is rich.
You can’t always share the same honesty and excitement with strangers tho.

I found a new job and therefore my awful absence in the site, taking priority with my family and personal growth…it’s hard because of the lack of time I get and last month was a total burnout.

Sorry that I’m being blunt here but writing off the people here like this who are willing to converse with you and support you sounds really ungrateful to me. Everyone in this thread are still real people with their own problems who despite that still want to communicate and support each other including you. Even when it can only be a small peptalk at most the intentions stay true.

I also don’t really see your point on blaming this on derpibooru or the current state of the internet around social media and such. I only use whatsapp for messaging and discord for online friends yet almost all of my current irl friends for whom I would lie on a grenade and vice versa are from the past 3 years. If you think making irl friends would make you better off than you can still do that today, but not while carrying the mindset of seeing your online friends as disposable glorified strangers

I agree with you, but knowing what I know from Star, on behalf of him, he doesn’t mean it in a bad way, there is a lot of ways to put it what he was thinking through but I think he meant it in the good possible ways what is like to have friends here and there.

Not everyone likes progress and modernism, but the modernists who want to change the way we do things (such as replacing humans with AI, cash with digital payments, or physical ownership with digital streaming) will try to bring us down with them. Most people only care about convenience and cost, and the rest of us don’t have a choice anymore.

We all use the internet through malicious ISPs that don’t give a fuck about us. We all rely on Google, Microsoft, and Apple some way or another. Most of us probably use Discord, Twitter X, and Reddit because that’s what everyone else uses and we’re relying on them for outreach. How many people complain about all the shit YouTube has pulled over the years (Google+ logins, removing dislikes and comments, blocking ad blockers) yet they still use it anyway because there are no other video platforms with even a fraction of the content YouTube has? A lot. They can try to leave YT but always keep coming back. Or take Windows for example. Microsoft has pulled a lot of shit over the decades which left users complaining or making the switch to GNU/Linux, but most people cannot make the switch and must live with Windows and Microsoft’s fuckery. Maybe it’s because all the workplaces and schools use it, because their favorite apps and games don’t support GNU/Linux, or they don’t know how to install any GNU/Linux distro (not even the user-friendly ones like Ubuntu and Mint). GNU/Linux just isn’t accessible for most people and never will be. The point is big tech companies can get away with all their shit because the vast majority of people are forced to rely on them, thus we are all slaves to big tech.

You might not be addicted to the internet, but many people are (especially kids today who probably can’t even imagine life without it) and this problem’s only going to get worse overtime because it seems like everything nowadays requires an internet connection.

Internet friends come and go, lasting for about as long as you’re together on any website. Eventually we’ll all leave this site and move on to other online places and make new friends there. I don’t like seeing friends as disposable but that’s just the way it is.

hmmm I see now that you rather meant for online friendships to be unsustainable and eventually not worth the commitment of an irl friendship instead of it being disposable? I mean, to me disposable means meaningless after use and it rubbed me the wrong way to think that that would be your view of the people here in the NLR and outside that I don’t know of. Then again, I think that our way of interacting online are different. I don’t really engage that much online, sometimes answering someone or a comment and don’t really make friends online, but if I make a friend online I want to stay in contact because it’s worth the same to me as a real life friendship. I think I understand you now.

Heey brethren! I’m doing good. I have lot’s of free time now and am using that to make up some lost time and visit people I haven’t seen in a while. Good to hear from you again! Maybe you’ve seen that I was a little worried if everything was okay ^^; … Sorry. Good that you take your time for your family and yourself! Sucks tho that your new job is burning you out!

I will probably go again tbh. its not that I dont enjoy chatting. but I mainly have to look out for my own mental health. there is a lot going on in my life and honestly silly chatting has been nice. but I also for context currently have every venting channel in any discord I am in muted and am only reading them when I got that space for it in my brain. its why I have been gone before I just do not have the mental space currently. I don’t mean it to sound like you can’t share or vent with me, but I do have my own mental limits when it comes to recurring issues. I do find it hard to return so thats why it takes me so long every time even if I am doing well. I am just making it a big stress point in my head when coming back making it take longer and longer that I am gone.

Yeah as much as I’d like to remain in contact with my friends here, it’s better to have real life friends than internet friends.

Here’s an image I uploaded two years ago with a score just under 100. If it gets one more upvote, it’ll be my second image with a score above 100 (and the first uploaded from this account). Both of them would have taken two years to get 100+ upvotes which along with the fact most my uploads barely get any votes at all shows how awful I am at art (though it’s far better than the shit I uploaded back in 2020).

Update: It just reached 100 (after 2 years).
