Faust worship

it seems to be like some people try to scapegoat any issue with any episode as saying it would be better if SHE was writing it or if SHE was there. As if Faust is some kind of super autocorrect machine that fixes all problems with the show. I find this idea to be silly and ridiculous, what do you think?

It is silly. She seems to be a good writer, but I would rather have the whole original team (plus the new writers) back than just her.
 
It would be interesting to see how she and the original team would have handled stuff like Twilicorn.

I think most people do it to whine about how awful they think the current showrunners are. Which I’d disagree to, I honestly think the showrunners we have now are great.

Of course it’s a stupid idea, but do we need this thread? It’s obvious how it will go: most people will agree that worshiping Faust is stupid, with Klonoa jumped in with his “Faust wouldn’t have allowed Marylight”.

I find this hero-worshiping worrying since the beginning because we’ve seen it before. It’s like those fanatics who worship celebrities or influential personalities, and we all know from history that this will only end in tears.
 
I respect Lauren Faust. I think she’s a really talented and cool lady who created MLP:FIM with the best intentions, and it’s really awesome she’s so supportive of the show’s non ‘traditional’ fans. However giving her all the credits, and thus ignoring contributions from supporting casts past and present is going to seriously harm the community and our relationship with the production crew.
 
Would season 3 have been better if she stayed on? Maybe, maybe not. The people who kept quoting the mythical show bible and saying, ‘But this is what Faust wanted and they didn’t follow!’ are forgetting that storyboards plans, like all plans, rarely survive in their original forms. Storyboards are tweaked and discarded all the time, either for creative reasons, budgetary reasons or simply because the higher-ups wanted to sell new toys. Since Faust is no longer actively involved in MLP’s production, I think it’s too much to expect her to use her influence and connection to ‘right’ the show.
 
In the end I think the real problem is that some fans are taking their favorite shows way too seriously. It’s okay to be passionate over the shows and movies we like, seeing that most Star Wars and Star Trek fans have grown into well-adjusted adults with fulfilling lives outside the fan community. But when you have someone who gets so passionate that they launch verbal attacks at the production team because they don’t match their inner expectations, it’s time to ask that person to time out and find a healthier interest.

First, yes, Faust didn’t make the show alone, and she has always been a hack when it comes to writing, but she poured her heart and soul making this happen. She got all the right people to make all the right things, and if you weren’t a newfag you’d know how in the early days the staff used to joke joke on her obsession with the show, from making sure the ponies didn’t make human poses an did pony things to putting actual continuity in an episodic series, she supervised everything to make it perfect because she loved what she was doing.
 
Second, yes, MLP wasn’t completely her idea, she watched the series when little and the show is one big ascended fanfiction, but not giving her credit for creating a good story just because some elements were pre-existing is very stupid: on one hand, there’s examples like Alan Moore, he has only once used original characters for his work, yet all his stories are considered some of the greatest ever made for comics, he’s made the best Superman stories and made Watchmen out of recently bought characters, it’s not the characters but what you do with them that’s really important, that’s how rip-offs like Batman and Captain America overshadowed their original incarnations; and on the other hand, THE WHOLE POINT OF MAKING STORIES or even SENTENCES is to use pre-existing concepts and arranging them in something else that can communicate a message, it can’t be completely alien or else nobody would understand it, be it you take those ideas from self experience or someone else’s you’re taking them from somewhere.
 
And third, you claim that it’s unfair for Twilight to lose her wings, something she worked for so hard when the same could be said for Faust, who gave us Twilight in the first place, you wouldn’t even have a show to defend if it weren’t for her, you and people like you are ungrateful bastards for saying that she’s being a cry baby for losing something so dear to her.
 
Yes, I’m a huge geek and I am mad right now.

I’m going to buck the trend of this thread and say that I do indeed understand why people go by her word, she created the characters and the show! While it’s true that she is no longer involved, the characters she created are what she wanted. When the writers defy that they are in a way making official fanfiction, as the characters are doing something that Faust would not have done. AFAIK, she left the show after some issues and were it not for that would still be there working on it.

…Okay, I agree Star Wars isn’t a good example. But I believe most Star Wars fans (well, most) don’t spend all their waking hours complaining endlessly when the prequel movies turned out to be lackluster. At most they probably just shrugged and say, ‘meh,” and went on with their lives.
 
In fact, I think Star Wars can serve as a cautionary story of show creators exerting too much influence on their creations and not giving up the rein to other equally capable people when it is time to do so. Maybe it’s also because George Lucas isn’t such a storytelling hack his die-hard believers say and he sold his creativity for profit, but wasn’t there a time when he was treated like a cinema god?
 
As for the question of whether Faust should have stayed on to helm MLP, well, I think we’ll only find the answer many years later, if ever.

I guess this topic really is too sore for some people. But if they want to be frustrated, let them. I couldn’t care less who makes the show, honestly. I had no idea who Lauren Faust was until I had watched the entire first season. I just want a show that is entertaining to watch.
 
Let’s not even start another “but why did she leaaaaaaaaaaaaaave” thread. They never end well.

She did a lot of good things to improve the show. But part of what she did was simply knowing who should do what.  
And there is something in that but to act as if her every idea is gold is simply wrong.
 
In fact, I get tired of her whining about how “Hasbro broke their promise” as if she was the last line of defense against the evil Hasbro.  
Hasbro was the one who kept her on a leash and made a better product as a result, they forced her to do things she didnt want to do and didnt let her do things she wanted to do.

I’m sure the show is fine without her, we do have a great team at DHX. And no, not all of her ideas for the show are perfect obviously.

From experience, things like this only happen to strong creative personalities, such as JMS, George Lucas, and Joss Whedon. Also, like them, Faust is mostly held to be infallible in her creations, with any supposed flaw being “someone else’s fault”, rather than an actual fault of the creator.

I think it come mostly from people unhappy about changes and believing she would have prevented them. In general it is misaimed anger toward the actual team as most of those choices were imposed and they probably wouldn’t do them on their own.
 
Also lot of the basic denied idea we saw wasn’t that good, lots of them are actually better now.

I think the whole Faust worshipping is rather pointless.  
Faust is a woman who has great imagination and is a great visionary.  
But when it comes to writing for a Show like MLP she isn’t that great.  
When i look at the first 3 Episodes there are not really that bad, but they really fall flat compared to some other Episodes in the Series. When the forth episode came (Applebuck Season) which wasn’t written by Faust, the Show pretty much reached it’s standard quality.  
What i am trying to say is that, Faust just gave these characters Life and there personalities. When it comes to the story, she had a very big team behind her back to help her.  
I don’t try to destroy the legacy of Faust, but i think it would be a bigger loss if all the writing stuff, that are there since the beginnning, would get fired immediatly. Or if the VA’s of the Mane 6 would get fired.  
This is of course just my opinion and not as a fact.

Faust seems awfully bitter about a lot of things with current FiM and her attitude kind of rubs me the wrong way.
