Background Pony #5489
https://www.equestriadaily.com/2023/01/official-size-chart-for-g5-ponies-and.html Wake up, folks! New stuff is here. Some important points:
The first inhabitants of Maretime Bay came from Ponyville.
Bridlewood is an evolution of the Everfree Forest, but everyone kinda knew it.
Zephyr Heights comes from Cloudsdale. Again, everybody kinda knew it. It apparently came to be after magic vanished and pegasi lost their ability to stand in the clouds.
Sorry, but… these sentences are open to interpretation in any direction.
It must not be forgotten that much of the work on the movie was based on a different draft than that used in recent times. When the team went from the original draft with “several millennia” and “war breaking up Equestria” with the G4 as a mythical world to the new one based on “several centuries” and “magic disappeared”, this caused problems. Ever since the idea of a new world based on G4 was accepted, it was clear that the old one had to be destroyed. We saw this between G1 and G4, the windigos and the great cold in the G4 past was to break completely with G1 and create a completely new world.
So a dilemma arose. How to destroy the G4 world? At first it was thought to let time sort this out and let war ensue, but this was rejected by Hasbro who embraced the G3 worldview in a weak moment. There was to be no war or other monstrosities. Then they came up with the idea of removing the magic so that the G4 world can collapse, and connecting the G4 and the new G5 much more closely together, as there was so much world building in G4, that they don’t want to redo the work. Thus we are left with the movie and an incomplete world without a map, without landmarks and very little beyond the three known localities. This characterizes the first season from C1 to C4/C5.
There was little fan-created scenery works so far, simply because there was too little shown of the world in the G5. This is unfortunate, as the G4 produced a lot of fascination and interest with its unique world that was never hidden away. This should be corrected as soon as possible.
These sentences can be interpreted, Bridlewood could be based on the Everfree (the crystals in Bridlewood are not found there) instead of being the forest, as this nullifies the information about the ex-Harmony Tree in the meadow in what was once a central part of the Everfree forest. Whenever Cloudsdale appears in G4, it was always with the mountains of Canterlot in the background. Zephyr Heights in the movie and TYT was not a city in the beginning, it was probably the base of the Wonderbolts, with a residence castle that may have been built by Twilight. We know that it was she who laid the third of the blanket seen in TYT, in the foundation on which the throne rested. Only an alicorn could do that.
And the information that the ponies in Maretime Bay originally came from Ponyville meant that something drastic had happened, why was Ponyville abandoned? The unicorns in Bridlewood have physical characteristics known from the unicorns in Canterlot, so the city may also have been abandoned. When Zephyr Heights was built, the pegasi settled at lower altitudes and thus left Canterlot alone. Canterlot was always below the cloud layer, which is where Zephyr Heights is located.
At the very least, the PDF confirmed that Bridlewood was an important magical place that we have yet to learn the significance of, as discovered in the C3 with both the wishing tree and the confusing book. This location could become important for the continuation of G5, as there are likely many secrets there. The wishing tree was once hollow as revealed by the book.
At the very least, we should now hope that everyone who worked on the G5 now agrees on what world it should be, and how the map should look, because it is time to open it up to the viewers. This is what the upcoming episodes in C4 and C5 as well as TYT have to show, and whether the Discord Arc is part of MYM/TYT canon or not.
