It’s almost like there was supposed to be a completely different story for season nine, right?
Like, they sat down and put all their effort into creating the absolute best story for the end of the show that they possibly could. And they made something amazing and wonderful, something that would have made everyone happy in some way, something that had events and concepts in it people had been speculating about and anticipating for pretty much the entire run of the show.
And then when it was all done, someone else took that story and twisted it to create a story that was the exact opposite, and that’s what we got instead.
Haha, but that would be ridiculous, right? Ha ha ha.
That seems to suggest that there was indeed a different story? Or is this just some kind of joke there?

The core story was similar but motives and major story beats were supposed to be different. The biggest one being in the original version the Princesses were supposed to “die” instead of retiring. Due to some explanation in balance this would also mean Discord would be gone too. The twist would still happen but Discord’s reasoning would have been more suitable than what we actually got
Because what we actually got instead was a neutered version of that

I’m assuming both Hasbro and the writers were at fault. Hasbro for not wanting to take the risks of killing off the princesses, but the writers for not wanting to try something else entirely and just making a significantly worse version of what they had.
There was nothing concrete that was explained in the leaks, so this is just speculation and assumptions
