Suggestion: [series:] vs a new tag prefix [set:]

There are some tag prefixes that get highlighted at the top of a tag list, and I wanted to clarify which ones there were and their purpose, as well as a tagging question/proposal.

The ones I’m aware of are:
comic:: To tag a series of pictures that are part of a comic strip-style art and storyline
spoiler:: Tags related to an episode or somilar content to avoid spoilers
series:: This is where I get a bit lost. I believe its for [individual] pictures that share a similar theme, situation, or story but don’t fall under a comic tag.

So if an artist releases a multi-slot YCH–coloring different characters into the same pose–I don’t think that’s a series, but there are enough like it that I think there should be another prefix for it.

What could be useful is a set: (and/or ych:) modifier, that gets treated with the same pink treatment as comic: and series: and thus separates them a little more clearly.

series: would be for pictures where the group follows some sort of story, situation, theme, or even universe–something that could be story driven. set: would be for pictures that share a theme but don’t have a story–things like ychs, repeated picture sets, an event, etc.

Could that be possible?

Currently, the namespaces (prefixes) that automatically get categorized are:
artist:, art pack:, colorist:, comic:, editor:, fanfic:, generator:, oc:, photographer:, prompter:, series:, spoiler:, and video:

Others might get used and tag-by-tag assigned categories, but not automatically; eg. tumblr:, cyoa:, game:, au:

That is indeed where it gets unclear. Here’s a previous thread with a little discussion about “set”, “series”, and other related phrases.

Agreed that they aren’t “sets” or “series”. I wouldn’t mind a ych: prefix when they have a significant number (how many?) of results. There already are some non-prefixed tags identifying specific, high-quantity YCH runs, for example several by Sugar Morning have tags “sugar morning’s [name of ych]”. I can’t think of anybody else’s off the top of my head, though…

Well, part of a set is by itself a colored/categorized tag. part of a series isn’t itself in a category, but it implies (automatically adds) “part of a set”. They don’t identify what that specific set/series is, but does indicate that there’s more if you want to look for it.

There are certainly enough high-quantity ych runs that don’t have a tag but easily could if the framework was in place for it; a few recent examples with the artist fuwa and those recent butt images and beardiearts’s ychs–only one of which has a tag, and a few that are dug in his portfolio and doesn’t have ych result attached. These sets could be tagged much better if the framework was there, but because they aren’t, there aren’t as many that already have some sort of applicable tag.

I also bring up set: because, in this specific example I have, I have a set of images created by artists during a recurring event, and the event has a name. I was just going to add the event as its own tag, but I feel like those types of names deserve to be recognized the same way a comic:, art pack:, or series: does. event: as a namespace, while certainly possible, may be too specific.

Therefore having set: as the equivalent of an “other” namespace when the others don’t work allows it to still be grouped and identified, as well as making it “official,” aka its own color and organized at the top of the tags like the others. Otherwise the name can just get buried.

They don’t identify what that specific set/series is, but does indicate that there’s more if you want to look for it.

It does seem weird to me that part of a set doesn’t require the name of the set in some tagged format. Those two feel like they should go hand in hand, and it does make it harder to identify the rest of the set. At least that’s where my whole point lies.
