@Labyrinthine
That actually reminds me of another story involving a brony that’s a bit more famous and cringy.
Back in 2013, the Bravo network came out with a reality show called
The People’s Couch which was basically about a group of people watch various shows/films/videos while providing commentary on them. Among the the things they watched was
Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony AKA the brony documentary which was produced with the assistance of many of the show’s cast and crew.
At one point during the documentary, Purple Tinker ( the person who allegedly founded Bronycon ) was interviewed. For those that aren’t aware, Purple Tinker is a transwoman but many people wouldn’t realize that just based off of her appearance and voice, Chris-chan probably does a better job passing as passing as a woman than PT. Once the crew started seeing the interview, many began asking each other if PT was a man or woman. While PT is incredibly vocal about being trans, she surprisingly didn’t being it up during the interview.
Now if you though that PT would at most get slightly upset about that and then get over it not long afterwards, you’d be dead wrong. When the episode aired and PT caught wind of it you’d think that
The People’s Couch crew outright said something like “trans people are evil and worthless and deserve to die”, based off of her reaction to it. She first tried to contact Bravo itself and get an apology and the episode pulled. Even though the PR woman PT talked to issued an apology and said that it’s very unlikely she could be able to get the episode removed from broadcast, instead of being civil, PT gave her an unbelievable amount of shit over something she had little to no power over ( I know this because PT actually posted a transcript of the phone call online, believing that it would show that she’s the “good guy” in the conflict ).
She next attempted to get her local Brony meetup chapter to join her in a protest against the network. When they declined and told her that, while they sympathized with her, she was making a mountain out of a molehill, she proceded to go off on them and give them shit until they finally had enough and banned her from the group. This supposedly caused her to move cross-country from Brooklyn to a town south of San Francisco.
But the scummiest thing she did during that conflict had to be trying to get her transgender friends ( many of which probably weren’t even bronies ) to join her protest against the network by threatening to out them if they refuse, claiming that “If I can’t be comfortable as a trans person why should they?”
This is also far from the only shitty things she’s done while in this fandom, but thankfully she hasn’t really been in the spotlight for sometime now, although she still has a certain amount of power in the fandom thanks to being close with many of the show staff and crew.
