To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t mind a more comedic Gargoyles show if it was more of an affectionate parody and still respected the source material and had an art style similar to, say, Transformers Animated.

It does. One controversial opinion of mine is that Ed Edd N Eddy has an ugly art style and downright ugly character designs, yet the show itself is damn amazing because of everything else.

Well, okay, that’s a lie. I can see how it would be fitting with certain shows, but it all depends on the mood and feel they are trying to set, and whether the art style matches that.

Having a good art style might not be top priority, but it’s still pretty damn important, and at the very least contributes to the overall quality. Samurai Jack is considered one of Cartoon Network’s best shows for its writing and storytelling, but its unique art style of jagged character designs and lack of outlines certainly helped. It almost looks like a moving painting at times, and it goes well with the series’ storytelling.
