A subreddit dedicated solely to hating on a specific person might not be the most reliable of sources?!
Say it ain’t so! :P

The one thing they definitely got right is, that the Escapist piece has indeed been deleted, which could mean they couldn’t prove its accuracy in court – assuming they were sued for it, that is.

They might not have known, so they complied with a take down, unlike Gawker which lead to the Gunner for Gawker lawsuit.

So, things are up in their air. They did hire Movieblob, but then canned him either because they realized what a condescending, blubbery Bolshevik prick he is or possibly just trimming the fat so they went right to the source of that.

Muh sides.

Anyway, you’re not seeing the actual point: Accurate reporting can stand up to scrutiny in court, especially in America (exploding Fords and accelerating Audis, anyone?), thus if the Escapist was completely accurate beyond reasonable doubt on the Star Citizen woes, then why would they remove the articles?

Yes, that is my, ahem, unbiased first impression.

Anyway, you’re not seeing the actual point: […] why would they remove the articles?
Simple answer: for currently unknown reasons.
Yes, those reasons could very well be inaccuracies – seems pretty likely, Occam’s Razor and all that – but until and unless something else turns up, it’s all speculation at the end of the day.

Of course a guy shouting “Allahu akbar!” before stabbing a bunch of people, and connected to a possible terrorist cell, has ‘unknown motives’

Seriously though, you must be a special kind of stupid to not recognise something that even Derek “Dell rackmount servers are superior to cloud-based servers” Smart is more clued in on. Let’s see, there’s two articles, a clarification about sourcing, and a podcast on the Escapist that have been completely removed. On the RSI website, Chris Roberts’ letter addressing the Escapist has *also* been removed. Just a complete coincidence, right?

@Ebalosus
To be honest, it is true that we may never know his motive. We can speculate what it is and it can possibly be very accurate, and yet we won’t know since him and anyone else is not there to confirm it.

Terrorist groups will be taking claim on it, saying that Khalid was their agent, but is he? They’re terrorists, after all. They’re not above lying. It’s easy to claim involvement in other people’s actions as to gain advantage. People do it everyday.

Next thing you’d know, we might have multiple different terrorist groups putting claim on the same attack. Now who are we going to believe?

Though, to me, the best speculated motive we have as of now is that he acted independently and out of his own religious bias. I doubt he’s an agent of a terrorist group. Way too unprofessional.

RE: Devil Satan Derek Smart opining on shit he hates:
Well, excuuuuuse me Princess, for not keeping up with every minute detail of the silly drama between a game designer I don’t care about, and a game that may or may not actually get a proper release at some point in the future, that I don’t care about (yet – we’ll see once it’s out of beta).

“We don’t currently know exactly what made them delete these articles and the response, even if it seems like a behind-the-scenes agreement between the two parties and/or a court ruling, that – I remind you – there’s currently no word on, that I know of, and therefore I’ll refrain from jumping to conclusions” ≠ “herp-de-derp, complete coink-y-dink”.
What was that about “special kind of stupid”, again?

I agree, but so should’ve Derek Smart, whom informed us of the whole event. Anyhow, his info is as follows:

full

The only major part he errs in is his conclusion, as the burden of proof is on the person making the claim, not the person the claim is aimed at. Quote hstaphath:
As usual, he has it completely backwards. The onus was on The Escapist to continue the investigation and bring to light actual evidence if there was anything truly underhanded going on at CIG. Aside from protesting how they felt they had done enough to vet their extremely suspicious “sources”, we got nothing from them.
And now they have taken it down. CIG already has lawyers on staff drawing paychecks. Any cost by them that didn’t result in going to court was negligible at best. Since CR had already stated no donor money would be used on a lawsuit, it would not surprise at all to know that it was funded by Chris and Otwin personally. DS would have to prove otherwise, which he can’t so he won’t. We can be sure that he will insinuate it took millions of donor money regardless!
readies the popcorn
Edit: And if this really had gone to court, that podcast (also removed, of course!) would have been a pretty tight rope around The Escapist’s neck.
Taking into account that a lot of what was said in those articles never came to pass, like how CIG was almost bankrupt, and how they were in the process of closing down their Austin, TX studio; the only thing that can be taken with any degree of certainty is that Chris Roberts is a dickbag visionary…which isn’t really news in the grand scheme of things. Hell, there’s strong signs that he’s backed off being that since 2015 (thank kek).

Since you asked, my sources, which include a journalist who is in contact with Lizzy F, another journalist who used to work at the Escapist, and an independent investigative journalist whom is trying to piece together what’s going on at CIG through cross-examining the writings of Derek Smart, haven’t gotten back to me yet. The former has acknowledged my query, and is looking into the matter, and I have yet to receive word from the latter two.

Still I’m so disopointed in Smart. He appeared to be more level headed and reasonable when thing with SPJ and GG happen but turned out to be same as he was in past.

And trying to fuck up Chris Roberts trying to resurect Space Sims (my fav genre) with Wing Commander spiritual succesor. (He tried to get right for my fav series, Freespace to make mediocrine sequel but he never succed).

@Ebalosus
Eugh. I’d prefer some kind of statement from either side or even a comment from someone involved (I’m afraid I’m a bit too cynical to take anyone’s I-Have-It-On-Good-Authority-That-X as a given, Derek!) but I guess we’ll have to make do with reasonable inference in the mean time… :P

I might be giving him too much credit, but I think he’s referring to a libel case, there?
Although he seems a bit confused on what CIG’s burden of proof would be, mind you; not that the claims made in the article (some of them self-evidently incorrect in hindsight, as you pointed out) were false, but that Defy Media/Escapist intentionally lied in their article – as far as my layman’s understanding goes, anyway.

@DeathCloud
I for one would welcome a resurrection of space sims – or pretty much any other genre for that matter.
Way too many FPSs, modern military shooters and third person action-adventures with stealth elements these days, while RTSs and proper CRPGs (not counting JRPGs) are relegated to the indie side of things…

You know, funny thing is, Smart himself has a history with a somewhat controversial, prematurely released, ambitious and hyped-up space sim that was in development for years.
If I was inclined to play amateur psychologist, I might speculate that has something to do with his hate-on. But I’m not, so I won’t. ;P

That history was reason why Freespace fans or space sim fans in general didn’t wanted him to be involved with FS3.
