all i know about soccer is people argue over whether it's called that or football, and that the objective is to get the ball into the goal with your feet to win touchdowns.
my daughter is presumably good at it, as she can get the ball to her feet and keep it there as she moves about the field, and has scored a few touchdowns, so i delight in going to her games and cheering for her.
however, because i know little about soccer and i am monumentally immature, i giggle whenever people say things along the lines of "get the d in there!" "what's wrong with the d?!" "why isn't the d on her?!" i'm assuming "the d" is an integral part of the game and not a dirty in-joke, but i've been wrong before.
today however this 80-something year old lady looks at my glowing grin as someone is yelling "work the d!" and politely says "not that
