Fallout 3 has a different type of exploration that I didn’t get from New Vegas, manly the exploration of a large city environment, but of course New Vegas has a ton of improvements over Fallout 3.

I know they likely add it to chase treads, but I do like that Fallout 4 has a crafting mechanic, since it fits with Fallout’s themes and build on top of the crafting that was in the pass games.

@Ping_chan
I also think that Fallout 1 and 2 are grossly overrated when compared to 3, 4 and NV.

Maybe it’s just the nostalgia aspect a game that I played when I was a kid, but they both had a certain aesthetic that when I think about it, out of Fallout 3, New Vegas and Fallout 4, I think only Fallout 3 came close to matching the aesthetics of Fallout 1 and 2.
I would say that Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4 have a unique feel in that they made a unique game without worrying about looking too much like the previous games. I just wish that Fallout 4 had centaurs.

It’s odd because statistically NV has more locations and a bigger map. But I’unno 3 just feels more rewarding in its exploration somehow.

That’s what happens when you’re on an 18 month development period. If they had 4 years or so, they could have filled in that space.
Outer Worlds has plenty to explore and find so it’s not like they can’t.

Possibly, though nostalgia isn’t a bad thing for the most part. I found 1 to be alight, though much too serious compared to the Beth style, with the special encounters just being jarring. 2 I gave up on when the game wouldn’t let me complete a quest in a way that would cause Vault City and the ghoul town to work together peacefully and without any enslavement. I want to beat 2 some day, but it’s moreso to say that I beat it and didn’t like it to my younger brother, who hyped it as the greatest game ever made than because I enjoyed it.

And while the Beth games have their problems (from preventing you from being evil like in 4 to big but empty like NV), but I like them and think they’ve done much more good than harm for the series.

@Mikey
I can agree with that. I don’t think you can even join the final bosses’ sides in the first two games.

That’s why I think Fallout 4 is great for free play, if you just say f&%k it to the main story quest and just explore the world map, the moment I try to follow the main story I loose interest pretty quickly and wander off to do something else.
I always find it funny that Bethesda can create this epically detailed world map and do a horrible job with the story.

I think I remember seeing some mods on No Mutants Allowed that adds features to Fallout 2 that might have enhanced some of the options for the main story quests, if not then I definitely remember seeing mods that restored cut content.

@Ping_chan
I do that with every Beth Fallout game, including NV. Also, if you never have, look up Fallout 1 and 2 speedruns, since like 3, you can skip large sections of the story if you know where to go, though I think it’s 80-90% for 1 and 2.

@Ping_chan
Fair enough. I fully agree that Obsidian should of had more time with NV than they were given.

@Silent_Witness
That’s unsatisfying. It’s like if had VN have a game over screen if you decide to join Ceaser. Also, I love NV’s ending slide much more than the other games. Beth should do that instead of the “You did good, kid” ones in 3 and 4.
