You know that rant on fanboyism I was talking about?
Here it comes!
Recently IGN innocently posted an article regarding Watch_Dogs and the insane PC specs needed to run it at the best settings.
Of course, they comments were full of PC gamers shouting to the heavens about their specs being better that consoles and referring to people to played on consoles as peasants holding gaming as a whole back.
For these people, I have a few choice words;
Fuck off.
Allow me to explain why I feel these are the best words to use.
First off, some facts:
- PC does have the higher graphical power and while this is a pro for them, it can also be a con.
- NOT ALL PC GAMERS ARE LIKE THIS. I’m sure many of you are splendid people.
- All fanboys, regardless of platform, are immature but this is a specific rant on the “PC Gamer Master Race”
The thing about PC elitists is that there is literally no point to their claims of “console peasants”. You’re not going to make a console gamer throw out their Xbox or PS4 or Wii U just because they are apparently “inferior” to PCs. This is true in terms of graphical power but the truth is, it doesn’t matter.
When I bought Metal Gear Rising for my Xbox, I bought it because I heard it was fun. I didn’t buy it thinking “GOSH IT WOULD LOOK BETTER ON PC”. This thought did not enter my head once. When you compare PC graphics to console graphics, typically the textures on PC are a little sharper and the frame-rate is higher.
So, how does this in any way affect my gaming experience? It doesn’t.
If you’re playing a game for fun - which you should be, let’s be honest - then graphics aren’t a huge thing to worry about. When playing Assassin’s Creed 4 for example, I highly doubt they water physics are going to have a massive impact on your gaming experience.
As for frame-rate it’s really not a big problem. Don’t dare say it is, because it isn’t. Humanity has been gaming for over 30 years and in the majority of those years, we haven’t cared about a game’s framerate, so why should we care now. The only games it is really needed are racing games or fighting games.
Just because it’s not 60FPS, it doesn’t mean it takes away from the games enjoyment factor. It didn’t really matter then, and it doesn’t matter now.
“But we have the Steam Sales! PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming”
In reality, both are the same in terms of price.
PC Gaming has one HELL of a entry-fee if you want a powerful rig but once you’re in, you can reap the benefits of the Steam Sales and being able to buy games at a cheaper price than on consoles.
Until your specs don’t match up.
Upgrading your PC will sometimes cost a shit ton of cash and depending on how much you are willing to spend, you’ll be doing it for a while. Spend more, play more. It’s that simple.
On consoles, the entry-fee may be cheaper depending on what you pick and if you chose the PS4 or Xbox One, you’re gonna be paying a fee for online play. Games are typically more expensive but you can relish in the fact that the game you put in your console will run just fine and will run fine for years to come. There are sales on all consoles and subscriptions to Xbox LIVE and PS+ do have benefits like free games.
I fear I am losing focus but what does all this prove? IT DOESN’T MATTER.
If you have a PC, good for you. Go play FTL (It’s one hell of a game)
If you have a PS4 or an Xbox, good for you. Let me know how Infamous and Titanfall are.
If you have a Wii U, good for you. Enjoy Super Smash Bros when it arrives.
We’re all gamers and in the end, it really doesn’t matter what you play on and you should NOT judge people on what they play on. There is no “Master Race”. We’re all the same.
And if you think that because you spent more on your platform and think everyone who doesn’t own a PC is a “Console Peasant” who shouldn’t be gaming, then I refer you to my choice words.
Fuck off.
Fuck off and go outside.
I have probably lost focus on that rant but holy hell I had to let off some steam.
