I remember reading once that a straight person who enjoys art/shipping of two members of the same gender (but opposite to the shipper’s own) may well be exhibiting an odd form of homophobia - where, say, a yaoi fangirl prefers ships of guys rather than a guy and a girl since the latter involves, as mentioned, a girl. Of course in FiM’s case it might also be a case of too many mares and not enough stallions, although as the image shows we do have plenty to pick from.

Preferring straight ships is homophobic? I would expect that straight people would prefer straight ships and gay people would prefer gay ships? That’s like saying that a straight person is homophobic because they don’t watch gay porn. Maybe this is just something bi people can’t understand.
 
Also I will stab Thunderlane in questionable places until a ship with him is homo. Then replace him with Soarin. (But anyone that takes that statement seriously deserves to)

Point taken, but it’s a two-way street. With them being that close, the way she screwed him over would have stung so much more than if they hadn’t known each other since Junior Speedsters. I can’t help but think that Spitfire (and Fleetfoot, but she’s not really relevant right now) probably have a way to go before things are right between them again.

I can understand people who would see him falling for Dash. But i can also understand why would people prefer SoariFire. They were partners since the beginning. They probably attend the flying school together so it would be understandable why Soarin would prefer the old friend and flying companion rather than a newbie fan.

Also, I would be more interesting to know why is Party Favor a better choice than Cheese Sandiwch. They have the same perosnality and interest than Pinkie, but i would imagine that a major character voiced by a famous comic and musician would be more interesting than a generic background pony with no developed past or bond with Pinkie Pie (Cheese is her childhood friend).

There is a popular counter ship of SoariDash with Soarin and Spitfire. Especially now since they appear together in a toy set. It is possible that artist is more impressed by the current partnership duo over the fan/idol shipping.
