It wasn’t Sunburst’s fault, it was his parents. Starlight was a filly back then so obviously her views were misguided and naive, I suppose she never reevaluated her decisions when she reached adulthood.
Nobody knew that she messed with time aside from Twilight and Spike, the rest of the Mane Six had to take her word for it. Twi, being the Princess of Friendship, felt an obligation to help Starlight learn about friendship. She explained this to her friends, and they probably decided to help Starlight because they saw how misguided and pitiful she was.
I know this episode ruffled a lot of people’s feathers. In my mind, however, it is justified. :P
This part was laughable, this whole episode was laughable. The way the guy just gone out like ‘Yay, I got my cutie mark, fuck you dumb bitch.’ was just ridiculous. There’s no way I could take this… ‘thing’ seriously.
We’ve reached god-like sob-story instantly-gets-redeemed-and-makes-friends-with-main-characters Mary Sue levels with this ‘episode’. I can’t even get mad at DHX anymore, I pity them for being such pathetic amateur fanfiction writers.
Which, oddly enough, makes her a more awesome villain. How many supervillains do you know that try to destroy the Universe just because they thought their childhood friend jilted them? The sheer pettiness of it makes it great.

Sure as hell was Sunburst’s fault that he didn’t so much as glance back at the filly he’d saved, or apparently make any attempt to stay in touch with her after he’d left, though. Dude was just a shitty, shitty friend.
